Nové Mesto Na Morave lies on the southern edge of the Žďárské vrchy. The town combines a historic centre with a strong connection to winter sports and cultural insights into the history of Moravian Horácko. Here you will find notable buildings, museums, guided tours, cross-country skiing and a swimming pool – a combination that makes it possible to pursue different travel plans side by side.

Historic Centre and Regional Culture

The Church of St. Kunigunde is the oldest monument in the town’s history and, as a distinctive building, shapes the town square. It combines Gothic and Baroque elements with sgraffito decoration by local artist Karel Němec. Different artistic periods and a local design tradition thus meet in one central building.

The Horácké Museum is housed in the former Renaissance town hall dating from the 16th century. Its exhibits range from folk culture and glassmaking to ironworking and skiing topics from the northern part of Moravian Horácko. Particularly unusual is the collection of ski equipment and ski clothing: it documents the development of skis and bindings, the production of the Sport company, and prizes and medals.

The Horácká Gallery is housed in a former Renaissance chateau on Vratislavovo náměstí in Nové Město na Moravě. An exhibition about Vincenc Makovský honours the important sculptor in his home town and home region. Another exhibition about Jan Štursa offers a cross-section of his work – from his student years and representative works to pieces reflecting his wartime experiences.

House No. 13 commemorates the victims of the Holocaust through the story of the Jewish Brada family. This site complements the artistic and urban-history topics with a form of remembrance rooted in local history.
