Discover Chlumětín: Educational Trail, Natural Monuments and Village History
Accommodation in Chlumětín
Chlumětín combines village history with short discoveries and longer hikes on the edge of the Žďárské vrchy. Here you will find an educational trail approximately five kilometres long with only minor changes in elevation, a circular hike of just under 22 kilometres and several distinctive natural sites. At the same time, the village preserves traces of rural architecture and invites you to experience a regional festival tradition on a journey where nature, history and everyday life lie closely side by side.
Village History Between Timber and Chapel
Several original wooden houses stand on Chlumětín village square. House No. 32 is another testament to the older rural structure. It is considered a remnant of a formerly larger timber homestead and shows how the village’s historic buildings have been preserved. The Chapel of the Virgin Mary dates from 1881. Together, these buildings do not form a museum tour, but rather individual points of interest for a walk through the village: the village square, the houses and the chapel each tell their own story of Chlumětín’s past.
Educational Trail and Hikes of Different Lengths
The Naučná stezka Chlumětín educational trail connects Chlumětín with the settlement of Krejcar and leads to the Volákův kopec natural monument. At approximately five kilometres long and with only minor changes in elevation, it differs significantly from the circular hike of just under 22 kilometres, which also begins in Chlumětín and runs along the edge of the Žďárské vrchy. This allows you to choose between a manageable route with several stops and a longer day trip without changing your starting point.
Another circular hike from Chlumětín initially follows the red-marked hiking route and, at the same time, the educational trail towards Paseky. This route combines two markings on the first section and complements the Naučná stezka described above with a different way of navigating the landscape. This range of routes is particularly relevant when choosing accommodation in Chlumětín: you can focus your stay on a shorter educational-trail loop or plan a longer hike as the main goal of the day.
Natural Monuments and the Source of the Chrudimka
Near Chlumětín, the Filipovský pramen is marked by a granite obelisk as the source of the Chrudimka. A hiking route leads to this point; at the same time, the Filipovský pramen is the first of a total of 31 stops on the Krajem Chrudimky local-history route. This makes the spring more than just a single point in the landscape: it marks the beginning of a longer route focused on the region’s history and heritage.
Stará Cihelna also has its own distinctive character. The natural monument lies on the cycling route to Chlumětín and consists of a group of pools in a reclaimed former clay extraction site for brickmaking. The former industrial site has thus become a natural monument that differs from the springs and hiking destinations around Chlumětín. Those who explore the area by bicycle as well as on foot will find a clearly identifiable stopping point here along the cycling route.
Services and Regional Festival Culture
For practical orientation, the Via Czechia itinerary lists food supplies and a bus service in Chlumětín. This information helps with local orientation, while the routes and natural monuments determine the possible destinations for each day. The Chlumětínský gulášfest provides a culinary connection: it has already been held for the fifth time and includes competitions featuring goulash dishes. In this way, a local event complements the village’s architectural and landscape impressions with a regional taste.
