Nedabyle Between History and Landscape

Nedabyle combines a local history dating back to the Middle Ages with a marked hiking route, protected traces from the Bronze Age and Hallstatt period, and a clearly described cultural landscape. This makes the place interesting for travelers who, when choosing accommodation, are looking not only for a starting point but also for an independent historical character. The first written mention of Nedabyle dates from 1346 and records Havel as Kon of Nedabyle, as well as the donation of the tithe from a farmstead in Nedabyle to the church in Střížov. This medieval connection thus links Nedabyle with an agricultural farm and ecclesiastical history.

Archaeological Traces and Paths Through the Cadastral Area

In the cadastral area of Nedabyle, Panský Les contains a Bronze Age and Hallstatt-period burial mound field protected as an immovable cultural monument. It includes four visible, excavated burial mounds. The four mounds connect the woodland site with a cultural landscape reaching far back in time. As visible, excavated forms, they remain individually distinguishable within the burial mound field. The Bronze Age and Hallstatt period represent two different prehistoric eras that come together in the same burial mound field.

Since 2016, the yellow-marked Vidov–Hůrka hiking route has passed through Nedabyle and its cadastral area. For planning a day on foot, the yellow marking provides a clear point of orientation. The registered landscape feature Lipová alej Nedabyle is located in the northeastern part of the municipality on the road to Doubravice. The route and the landscape feature establish different spatial references: here, a path leads through Nedabyle and its cadastral area, while there, a protected landscape element lies on the road to Doubravice.

Historic Farmstead and Mining History

The buildings also add a precisely described example of rural architecture to the character of the village. Houses No. 11 and 55 in Nedabyle form a gable-fronted agricultural farmstead. It comprises a dwelling house on the left and a retirement house on the right. Between the residential parts is a farm building with a passageway and two gates. Those interested in regional architectural forms will therefore find not just a house number here, but a comprehensible arrangement of several building sections. The farmstead thus demonstrates a rural spatial arrangement that differs from the prehistoric traces in Panský Les.

The history of the older economy also includes the information that the opening of a mine near Nedabyle was approved in 1522. The wording refers to approval of the opening; it says nothing about any present-day operation. To reach the Nová Ves–Hůrka viewpoint, drive through Nedabyle and, in the next village, Nová Ves, turn left behind the petrol station.
