Lužice U Netolic combines cycling and hiking trails with a multifaceted village character, riding experiences and unusual landscape features. Cycling and Hiking Around Lužice

The RCH3 country lane connects Netolice and Lužice via Horánek and offers cyclists and pedestrians a shortcut between the two places. The educational cycling route No. 1104, “Historická krajina Netolicka”, also runs through Lužice. In the Netolice area, it forms an approximately 50 km circular route with 16 marked stops and information boards in three languages. The route follows paved roads through easy terrain and can be divided into several stages. Another point of orientation is the blue-marked hiking trail from Netolice through the Blanský les to Kuklov and Kleť. On the listed hiking and cycling route, Lužice is 18.5 km from Netolice square. Cycling tour “Podhůřím Blanského lesa do Holašovic” also passes through Lužice as Stop 14. The 16 stops and trilingual information boards provide orientation along the circular route. Together with the stated distance of 18.5 km from Netolice square, this creates a specific spatial reference for planning; dividing the route into several stages also allows for different daily distances.

Borkoviště and Lužické letiště

Borkoviště is a moor of approximately 2 hectares in the Lužice Forest, near the cycling route. The traditional manual extraction of peat there was called “borkování”. At Borkoviště, peat was extracted in the 18th and 19th centuries for heating and as bedding for livestock. Lužické letiště is often used for model-flying competitions, and its area is considered a site where South Bohemian moldavites are found. The two places complement the landscape in different ways: the moor represents the forest, peat and former land use, while the airfield area represents model flying and moldavites.

Village Character and History

A niche chapel stands beside the old road to Netolice. One of the routes of the old trade road, the Linecká, which connected Bohemia and the Austrian lands, probably ran along this road. A wooden traditional bell tower stands at the corner of the village square. Lužice is also home to traditional agricultural farmsteads of the longitudinal type. The village square retains the gap left by the demolition of the large Hojdaroviny estate. Rows of stone walls along the road further shape the character of the village. On a walk, the niche chapel, bell tower, farmsteads and stone walls come together to create a variety of architectural impressions. The old road to Netolice also provides the context for the chapel and for the route of the Linecká that probably ran along it.
