Košín brings together a waterside landscape, natural habitats, and local history. The Košín I Reservoir lies on the Košínský Brook; the Mokřad Košín wetland revitalizes the site of the former Košínský pond. The area also has a history of silver mining. These features make Košín an interesting destination for travelers who want to include nature and history in their plans.

Reservoir, Brook, and Wetland

The 19.8-hectare Košín I Reservoir lies on the Košínský Brook, and Košín is the nearest village. Part of the reservoir, together with its bankside vegetation, is designated as a local biocenter in the municipal plan. The Košínský Brook has a floodplain and bankside vegetation, so a larger body of water and brookside habitats sit side by side.

The Mokřad Košín wetland includes a main pond with varying water depths, a littoral zone, and small ponds that provide habitat for small animals. Native trees and shrubs have created a natural setting there that contributes to biodiversity and nature conservation. The combination of a littoral zone, main pond, and small ponds makes the wetland more than a single body of water.

The main pond is planned to have depths of 0.3 to 1.3 meters, an approximate length of 82 meters, and a water surface area of 755 square meters. These dimensions describe a main area with varying depths; the littoral zone and smaller ponds are also part of the wetland’s design. The reservoir is about 262 times larger than the planned water surface area of the main pond. This comparison refers to the main pond, not the area of the entire wetland.

The reservoir, brook, and wetland bring together different types of landscape: the floodplain and bankside vegetation shape the brook corridor, while the main pond and smaller ponds define the wetland. This means Košín’s natural appeal is not limited to the reservoir’s larger body of water.
