Hrazany: Culture and Trails in One Place

Hrazany is a destination for travelers who want to discover different traces of the past: a chapel with a clearly documented history, monuments in the village, traditional timber-framed folk buildings, and marked trails through the surrounding area. In addition, the geological formation known as “Kněz” serves as a distinctive landmark north of Hrazany. This gives you a travel idea that combines cultural history and active days through specific destinations.

The Chapel of the Holy Spirit

At the center of Hrazany stands the Chapel of the Holy Spirit. It was built in 1926 and extensively renovated in 2003. The construction date and the later renovation mark two historical phases in the chapel’s history. A special connection to everyday life in the village is the regular Angelus bell, which rings from the chapel in the morning and evening. The building is therefore not only one of Hrazany’s historical landmarks but also shapes the village’s acoustic rhythm.

The history surrounding the chapel and the village’s appearance also includes the memorial lime trees in Hrazany. They were planted in honor of the Jubilee Exhibition in Prague in 1891. Several stone crosses are also among the monuments in Hrazany, adding small religious monuments to the visible commemorative features.

Monuments and Traditional Buildings

On the village square in Hrazany, a memorial stone commemorates Soviet troops under Marshal Malinovsky, who rested there on May 11 and 12, 1945. The memorial stone connects the village square with a precisely dated event in the village’s history. The village also contains several traditional timber-framed folk buildings, which are now privately owned. The village square and the timber buildings thus represent different cultural focal points within Hrazany.

Near Hrazany stand two crosses, each carved from a single stone. One of these stone crosses is more than one meter high and bears engravings of a sword and a tailor’s shears. The two crosses add a cultural and historical connection in the nearby surroundings to the monuments in Hrazany. In addition to its size, the taller cross is notable for its two engravings.

The geological formation known as “Kněz” lies approximately 0.5 km north of Hrazany.

Cycling and Hiking

Hrazany also offers two different starting points for planning routes. Cycling Route 1154 runs through Hrazany on its way from Kostelec nad Vltavou to Sedlec-Prčice. A red-marked hiking trail runs through the village between Milevsko and Vysoký Chlumec. This allows you to distinguish between a documented cycling route and a marked hiking trail and plan your day according to your preferred means of travel and the respective route.
