České Žleby: Hiking, Cycling and the Golden Trails
České Žleby combines a high-altitude settlement at the foot of Žlebský vrch with hiking trails, cycling routes and traces of history. If you would like to combine nature experiences with cultural discoveries during your stay, you will find several different points of interest here: the “Around České Žleby” trail, the historic Golden Trail and cycling routes towards Stožec.
Location Between Mountains and Viewpoints
České Žleby lies at an elevation of 913 to 950 metres above sea level. The settlement is located at the foot of Žlebský vrch, which reaches an altitude of 1,080 metres. The mountains of Stožec, Křemenná, Eibenberg and Větrný are also located near České Žleby. This geographical setting makes the village particularly interesting for anyone who wants to spend their days enjoying landscape views and mountain trails.
The “Around České Žleby” hiking trail offers views of the Czech and German mountains, including Luzný. It begins at the central car park and follows a yellow-marked route towards Mlaka and Kamenná Hlava. For families with different interests, Relax Park České Žleby provides a starting point for exploring Šumava. The park includes a car park, relaxation terraces, a historical exhibition and a children’s playground.
Hiking and Cycling Around the Village
The hiking trail combines clear orientation at the central car park with a route leading towards Mlaka and Kamenná Hlava. Its views of the Czech and German mountains give the hike a strong scenic focus, while Luzný stands out prominently as a mountain on the horizon.
Cyclists will also find several documented route connections in České Žleby. The first stage of the Zlatá stezka (Blanice) cycling route passes through České Žleby; one of its attractions is a stone fountain. The Vltava Route reaches České Žleby via cycle path 1025 and continues from there along cycle path 33 to Stožec.
Golden Trails and Regional Culture
České Žleby lies on the historic Golden Trail (Zlatá stezka). The history of the village is therefore connected not only with the landscape but also with a traditional route whose legacy lives on today in the names of the Zlatá stezka hiking and cycling routes. In the wider region are Chlumany, an archaeological site, and the Schiffler Chapel, a church.
For your planning, you can set your priorities accordingly: the “Around České Žleby” trail leads from the central car park into the countryside, the Zlatá stezka (Blanice) cycling route connects the village with a stone fountain, and the Vltava Route continues towards Stožec via cycle paths 1025 and 33. Relax Park complements this orientation with a historical exhibition, relaxation terraces and a children’s playground.
