Accommodation in Holešovice
Holešovice: Culture in Many Forms
Holešovice offers a diverse range of experiences, where listed sites, exhibitions, events and active leisure activities exist side by side. Holešovická tržnice is a listed complex in the south of Holešovice. This makes it one of the options featuring a character shaped by historic buildings and a distinctive site.
DOX focuses on accompanying programs in its exhibition spaces, in the unique Gulliver airship and in the multifunctional DOX+ hall. Following its reconstruction, Holešovická Šachta adds to this cultural diversity with three exhibition rooms and a total area of more than 350 m². In addition to art exhibitions, it also hosts theater performances, readings, lectures, concerts, workshops and film screenings. This gives you a selection that includes not only classic exhibition visits but also changing event formats.
Výstaviště between Panoramas, Events and Marine Animals
Výstaviště Praha has very good public transport connections and parking facilities. The Výstaviště complex is home to the Marold Panorama, an 11-meter-high and 95-meter-long panoramic painting of the Battle of Lipany. The Czech painter Luděk Marold created it in 1897–1898. Its unusual dimensions and historical subject give this visit a clear cultural focus.
The Křižík Fountain at Výstaviště is currently used as a venue for short-term events, including concerts, shows, theater performances and gastronomic events. The Výstaviště grounds in Holešovice are also home to Mořský svět. It houses the largest exhibition of marine animals in the Czech Republic; the exhibition includes almost 150 animal species from Indonesia, Sri Lanka, South America and other countries.
The Národní muzeum – Lapidárium is also part of the cultural offering at the Výstaviště complex. The specialized collection consists predominantly of stone Czech sculptures dating from the early Middle Ages in the 11th century through the 19th century. Important for planning: For technical reasons, the Lapidárium is closed until further notice.
Active Activities and Technical Monuments
For active pursuits, there is Skateplaza Na Výstavišti, a 1,400 m² area for skateboarding and other roller sports. The Na Výstavišti swimming pool has a 25-meter swimming pool and is located in Holešovice, Prague. The two options focus on different activities, allowing you to choose between roller sports and swimming when planning your stay.
Another side of the neighborhood is revealed by Holešovický Port. It is an important technical monument and connects shipping with rail and road transport. The original buildings at Holešovický Port were built in the Art Nouveau style. This site therefore combines transport history and architecture in a clearly defined ensemble.
Accommodation to Match Your Preferred Focus
Anyone looking for a hotel in Holešovice can tailor their choice to their preferred daily itinerary: exhibitions and historical collections, events at Výstaviště, marine animals, swimming or roller sports each offer a different focus. Since the Lapidárium is currently closed, you should not plan this visit as an available activity.
