Slatina between an educational trail and stone memorials

Slatina is ideal if you would like to combine a nature experience and cultural history in a manageable destination. The village offers rest areas and tourist information boards. At the same time, several traces lead into its history: to the Chapel of St. Wenceslas, the Baroque niche chapel of St. Barbara “Na Hradcích”, stone crosses and Slatina’s striking sundial. For families with different interests, this creates a choice of activities ranging from movement and discovery to quieter cultural sites, without having to limit yourselves to just one type of outing.

The “Okolím viklanu” Educational Trail and the Granite Formation

The “Okolím viklanu” educational trail begins at the chapel in Slatina. It is marked with yellow tourist trail markers; numbered information boards stand along the route. The trail is therefore not just a walk through the landscape, but also a series of explanatory stations. The educational trail leads to the protected granite formation Velký čertův náramek. If you enjoy combining a specific natural destination with information on site during an outing, you will find a clearly defined focus for exploring Slatina here.

Cultural Sites with Different Visiting Conditions

The village’s Jewish history is reflected in two sites whose accessibility is regulated differently. Slatina Synagogue is a private building and is not open to visitors. It is also listed as a state cultural monument and bears registration number 37216/4-3287. The Jewish cemetery in Slatina, on the other hand, is freely accessible year-round. This distinction is important for your planning: both sites form part of Slatina’s historical character, but they cannot be visited in the same way.

Sundial, Chapels and Stone Crosses

A particularly impressive object is Slatina’s sundial. It consists of a granite block four metres long and just under three metres high, weighing nine tonnes. Astrological signs are carved into the granite. The sundial combines the exceptional size of the granite block with astrological signs carved directly into its surface. The Chapel of St. Wenceslas adds a clearly dated historical reference to this stone feature: it was built in 1865 by the municipality of Slatina for 300 gulden.

Another stop is the brick Baroque niche chapel of St. Barbara “Na Hradcích”. It stands on a hill near a quarry on the left-hand side of the road to Chanovice and probably dates from the end of the 18th century. There are also several stone crosses in the cadastral area of Slatina. In this way, the village can be discovered through individual, differently characterised testimonies: the educational trail and granite formation stand alongside small sacred monuments and historical memorial sites.
