Přehýšov brings together a chapel with remarkable architectural details, an unusually large village green and preserved factory buildings. Together with walking routes on the edge of the town, these offer different perspectives on the place: sacred architecture, farmsteads, industrial history and paths towards the forest or Nýřany.

Local History and the Chapel

The first mention of the town dates to a document from 1248. After the mid-14th century, Přehýšov was owned by Chotěšov Monastery. These two historical reference points tell different stories: 1248 marks the first written mention, while the later monastic ownership describes another chapter in the town’s history. This makes it possible to view the town’s history as spanning more than a single date.

The Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary was built in 1893. It has a single nave, a five-sided presbytery and a tower on the façade. Some of the presbytery windows retain colourful, mosaic-like stained glass; the original altar with an image of the Virgin Mary has also been preserved. The basic layout, façade tower, windows and altar are distinct features of the building. A presbytery is the liturgically prominent area of a church; its five-sided shape and preserved windows make the description easy to understand even without prior knowledge of architecture.

Village Green, Farmsteads and Factory Buildings

Another architectural highlight lies around the edge of the unusually large, built-up village green. Numerous farmsteads, mostly in the late Neoclassical style, have been preserved there, often with vaulted gateways. The vaulted gateways are a recurring architectural detail throughout this group of farmsteads. Alongside the individual chapel, there is thus an ensemble of numerous farmsteads that brings a different type of building into view.

Several factory buildings dating from after 1900 have also been preserved in Přehýšov. Farmsteads and factory buildings served different purposes; the town’s history is therefore not reflected solely in religious architecture. Those interested in architectural history can distinguish sacred, rural and industrial buildings here as different aspects of the townscape.

Walks and Excursions

A walking route runs along the edge of Přehýšov’s residential area before heading east towards the U Zieglerky forest. The description thus gives both the route along the edge of the settlement and the direction towards the forest. On the walking route from Přehýšov to Nýřany, both ends are easily accessible by train. This is useful when planning your arrival and return; check the relevant timetable before setting out. The two pieces of route information answer different questions: one describes the direction on the ground, while the other explains how accessible the ends of the route are by train.

Cycling and culture also came together on an official family cycling excursion. The route covered 9.1 km around Zbůch and included a visit to Chotěšov Monastery. As a past excursion, this is a concrete example of combining a cycling route with a cultural visit, not an indication of a regularly scheduled event.

At Přehýsovský Pond, a beaver built its first dam on a tributary, flooding neighbouring properties. This event adds a historical nature observation and a specific impact on the landscape to the architectural history.

Events and Accommodation

The official V OBRAZE mobile app of the Municipality of Přehýšov is intended for residents and visitors and provides timely information about local events. It is another useful reference if local events, as well as historic buildings, are important to your stay.

When looking for a hotel in Přehýšov, consider what you plan to focus on: the chapel, farmsteads and factory buildings represent different aspects of the town’s history; the walking route to Nýřany adds train access at both ends to your plans.
