Mochtín
Accommodation in Mochtín
Mochtín combines a distinctive location between the Brdy and Šumava mountain regions with tangible cultural and historical traces and documented cycling connections. Mochtín lies at a geographical crossroads between the two mountain regions. Its historical points of reference range from a religious building and a memorial commemorating named local war victims to a preserved façade reflecting its former use. For those travelling to the Czech Republic who are looking not only for accommodation but also for a distinctive local character, Mochtín offers several different points of interest: a chapel with a long history, a memorial to local soldiers, the preserved decorated façade of the former courtyard of the “U Vlčků” inn, and the Kocourov area with an existing sports and leisure complex.
Cultural and historical traces in Mochtín
The Chapel of Our Lady of Help was built in 1893. It is the only religious building in the municipality of Mochtín and therefore occupies a clearly defined place in the local history. It has been renovated several times; the last reconstruction took place in 1993.
Another historical point of reference is the memorial to those who fell in the First World War. It commemorates the local soldiers Emanuel and Václav Doubek. Naming both men anchors the commemoration in the history of the municipality and establishes a concrete connection to the local soldiers. Mochtín also preserves the decorated façade of the former courtyard of the “U Vlčků” inn. As an architectural detail, the façade recalls the courtyard’s former use. What has been preserved is the façade of the former inn, not a current catering establishment.
Cycling connections with different route characteristics
Mochtín lies along the “From Klatovy to Mlázov by Bike” cycling route. The route follows cycle paths and lightly trafficked Class II roads. When planning a cycling tour, it is therefore not only the route name that is relevant, but also the described combination of different types of road.
Another specific section is the 832 m-long part of cycle path 305 in Mochtín. It runs between the former mill and the road to Újezdec. The section directs cyclists from the heavily trafficked I/22 road onto a section closed to motorised traffic.
Kocourov as a distinct experience
Within the municipality of Mochtín, the existing AKTIVITY Park Kocourov sports and leisure complex is located in the Kocourov area. Kocourov complements the historical points of reference with an existing sports area. It includes a ski resort for downhill skiing. This area adds a different, sports-oriented option to the cultural and historical themes and cycling connections, which you can take into account when looking for suitable accommodation. The information describes the existing downhill skiing facilities; it does not allow any conclusions to be drawn about snow conditions or a seasonal operating schedule.
