Okrouhlé Hradiště – Hillfort, Educational Trail and Cycling Routes

Okrouhlé Hradiště combines a distinctive landscape with traces of a long local and settlement history. The village lies on the gently sloping southern hillside of the southern foothills of Hradišťský vrch. Orchards surround the settlement, and picturesque avenues of fruit trees run along the local paths and roads. This creates a tangible impression of the landscape even before the historical features of the village come into focus.

Hillfort and Local History

The Hradiště Hradišťský kopec site is designated a national cultural monument. At the same time, it is the second-largest hillfort area in West Bohemia and an important record of socioeconomic changes at the end of the Bronze Age. For your stay, this means that the history of the village can be understood not only through individual dates, but also through the special significance of this archaeological site.

The historic centre of Okrouhlé Hradiště is also documented as early as 1369. The Church of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist is mentioned as early as 1380 and was recorded as a parish church from 1696. The present Church of Saint John the Baptist is Pseudo-Romanesque and dates from 1881. Together with the historic centre, it creates a picture in which several periods of the village’s history are visible side by side. The church thus connects three historical dates: 1380, 1696 and 1881.

Hradišťský vrch Educational Trail with Viewpoints

The Hradišťský vrch educational trail is a 5.5-kilometre circular route. It is marked in green and has six information panels; the typical walking time is around 2.5 hours. The walking time refers to the entire 5.5-kilometre circular route.

Along the way, the educational trail offers several beautiful views over the surrounding region. The information panels provide knowledge about the typical flora and fauna of this distinctive landscape, as well as the history of prehistoric settlement dating from the Late Bronze Age. Those travelling with different interests can therefore combine nature observation, a landscape experience and historical orientation in a single outing. The six panels also give the route a clear thematic structure, while the green markings identify the circular course.

Cycling Routes through Okrouhlé Hradiště

Several cycling routes pass through Okrouhlé Hradiště. The “Nad úterským potokem” cycling route follows Cycle Route 306 through Okrouhlé Hradiště. The “K vodě dvakrát přes Hadovku” cycling route also passes through the village along Cycle Route 306. The Šipín cycling route is 48 kilometres long and passes through Okrouhlé Hradiště. The scale of the outings reveals a clear difference: the educational trail covers 5.5 kilometres and takes around 2.5 hours to walk, while the Šipín cycling route is 48 kilometres long. The other two cycling routes share a section along Cycle Route 306 within Okrouhlé Hradiště.
