Chotiměř: Cultural History and Friendship Cycle Route

Chotiměř was first mentioned in 1379. At that time, Hněvek z Chotoměře was the owner of the village. The original fortress of Chotiměř was mentioned as abandoned in 1547. The Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk

Its architecture features a structured trapezoidal floor plan and is crowned by three sheet-metal domes. Niches on the front of the façade contain statues of St. Francis, St. Joseph, and St. Catherine. The Calvary sculptural group in Chotiměř bears the Czech monument number 24976/4-2036 and is also a protected cultural monument. East of the village, in fields above the confluence of the Zubřina and Hradišťský potok streams, lies the U Kalvárie archaeological site. Surface finds have revealed an extensive prehistoric settlement there.

Cycling through Chotiměř

The marked Friendship Cycle Route No. 2141 passes through Chotiměř. The cross-border route is 105 km long and connects the tourist centre of the Upper Palatinate Forest in the town centre of Nabburg, in the Schwandorf district, with the Regional Information Centre in Horšovský Týn. In the Czech Republic, the cycle route runs along field and forest tracks as well as minor roads with little traffic. Those cycling the Czech section encounter a succession of field tracks, forest tracks, and minor roads with little traffic; this sequence should be taken into account when choosing a bicycle and planning daily stages. This allows the trip to be planned with a stronger focus either on the local cultural history or on a longer cross-border cycling connection.
