Chudenín combines border history with a variety of opportunities for a day on foot or by bicycle. The village originally developed as a Choden settlement at a border guard post on the Czech-Bavarian road. Today, historical sights, a marked educational trail, a cycle route and a body of water where swimming is possible come together here. This makes Chudenín a destination with different points of interest for a trip where you would like to combine culture and nature.

Border History and Monuments in Chudenín

The location on the Czech-Bavarian road shapes the character of the village. The nearby border crossings at Svatá Kateřina (Rittsteig) and Fleky (Hofberg) enable day trips to the Bavarian side of the border and vice versa. Chudenín is therefore also suitable as a starting point if you would like to get to know the border region from more than one direction.

Since 1990, the local monuments in Chudenín have been restored. One of the prominent historical landmarks is the Chapel of the Virgin Mary, which dates from 1834. Its roof and façade were reconstructed in 1986. More than 150 years lie between the construction of the chapel and the reconstruction of its exterior parts. A memorial lime tree stands next to the chapel. A protected tree can also be visited in Chudenín. The historical sites are therefore not only part of the village’s history but can also be included when exploring the area.

Educational Trail, Cycle Route and Chudenínský rybník

For a walk through the surrounding area, the “Krajinou pod Medvědí kaplí” educational trail is an option. It starts and ends in Chudenín, creating a clearly defined way to combine a visit to the village with a circular route. The educational trail is managed by the Municipality of Chudenín and marked in cooperation with the KČT.

The area can also be explored specifically by bicycle. Cycle Route 2050 runs from the Fleky–Hofberg border crossing via Chudenín to Nýrsko and is 9 km long. Another cycle route runs along Chudenínský rybník. Swimming is possible in Chudenínský rybník. This allows you to choose between a route with a designated course, an educational trail and a stay by the water without mixing up the different experiences.

Geotourism Highlight near U Radošína

U Radošína, a geotourism attraction (geotope), is located in the vicinity of Chudenín. The term geotope refers to a geologically significant site. U Radošína is an abandoned amphibolite quarry and a type locality in the Domažlický Crystalline Complex. Amphibolite is the name of the rock in the abandoned quarry; as a type locality, U Radošína is also a geological reference site. This geological site complements the historical and landscape impressions with a subject that clearly differs from the chapel, border history and water-based activities.
