Lubná

Lubná combines a long history with a remarkable glassmaking tradition, small sacred buildings, streams and an event calendar with a local character. The history of Kajetánčina huť is particularly distinctive: the glassworks made Lubná famous in the first half of the 19th century, and its glass products were exported to Spain, the Netherlands and America. Glassmaking tradition and historical traces

Lubná was first mentioned in 1167. In 1347, the settlement was assigned to the Litomyšl Chapter. These early milestones provide the village with a historical framework, while Kajetánčina huť represents its economic and craft development in the 19th century. According to local tradition, the chandelier for the Chapel of St. Anne was also made there. This tradition is explicitly passed down as such and supplements the documented significance of the glassworks with a local detail.

In the centre of Lubná stands the Chapel of St. Anne. It was enlarged in 1857 and dedicated to Saint Anne. The Chapel of St. Xaver has also stood there since 1857. Further landmarks are located along the roads outside the village centre: the Holy Trinity statue stands on the road from Lubná to Široký Důl, while the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands on the road known as Stará silnice. This makes it possible to connect different historical points of reference during a walk through the village.

Streams, forest and the highest point

The Lubenský Stream flows through the built-up part of Lubná and rises in Lubenské paseky. The Desná rises in the Lubenský Forest. Together with Mount Skalka, this creates a landscape that connects the village with its springs and forest surroundings. At 699 metres above sea level, Skalka is the highest point in Lubná. At the same time, Skalka is a centre for sports and cultural events in Lubná, making it not only a geographical designation but also an important venue.

Festivals with a local character

Several events bring the annual cycle of Lubná to life. The Anenská pouť pilgrimage festival takes place every year at Lubná's summer grounds. After its first edition, the Velikonoční jarmark Easter market became a traditional event and is held on the Saturday one week before Easter at the summer grounds. This fixed connection to Easter is essential for placing it in the calendar.

The Lubenská šťopička also forms part of the local event calendar. The spirits festival was founded in 2008. It includes public tastings of selected spirits and liqueurs, as well as music and a cultural programme. In winter, the Vánoční prodejní výstava Christmas sales exhibition follows; it has a tradition of more than twenty years. It is always held at the beginning of December in the hall at Skalka. Those travelling with children or several generations can therefore choose between historical discoveries, landscape experiences and events of different kinds, without reducing Lubná to a single day-trip destination.

Lubná is one of the member municipalities of the Kraj Smetany a Martinů association, from which the circular routes there can be completed. The municipality thus complements its own local features with a broader framework for exploring the surrounding area.
