Discover Třeština: Local History, Háj and Cycling Route
Accommodation in Třeština
Třeština combines an unusual historic townscape with technological cultural heritage, nature observation and a 40-kilometre cycling route. Families wishing to combine different interests while travelling through the Czech Republic can therefore choose from various ways to explore the area: local history, cycling, traditional crafts and excursions into the countryside.
Townscape, Church and Regional Tradition
The heritage conservation area of Třeština preserves the urban layout of an originally one-sided medieval colonist village founded on a terrain ridge above a valley. Historic façades in the conservation area feature floral, zoomorphic and anthropomorphic ornamentation. Farmstead No. 2 is also one of the village’s remarkable architectural forms: it is a regionally unusual type of rural estate with a richly decorated main façade.
The Church of Saint Anthony of Padua is a single-nave Neo-Gothic church completed in 1866 and built on the site of an earlier chapel. Its square tower with an onion dome creates a distinctive architectural feature. At the crossroads towards Dubicko and Police stands the Vysoudil Chapel, built in 1745 as a brick triangular shrine. The “Na stráž” war memorial was created in 1922 by Prague sculptor and woodcarver Vojta Sucharda. The ceramic figural sculpture from Třeština is also included in the list of traditional crafts of the Olomouc Region.
Háj, Water Management and Landscape
The Háj waterworks is an important technical monument and a work of Czech interwar modernism. It was built between 1921 and 1924. The electricity generated there was also intended to supply the nearby municipality of Třeština. Another historic farm is Farmstead No. 33, a listed agricultural estate dating from 1837 with a rendered, richly articulated façade and a vaulted interior.
The landscape is also notable for the recorded occurrence of the legally protected orchid Epipactis albensis in a meadow and riverside woodland at a bend in the Morava River near the Třeština weir. At Vila Háj, canoeing equipment can be rented from the IN-LIFE Morava boat rental service.
Cycling and Active Days
The “Za památkami do Háje a Úsova” cycling route is 40 kilometres long, passes through Třeština and Háj, and then follows the Morava river embankment. One section of this route forms part of the Moravská stezka long-distance cycle route. For further active experiences, the Jezdecký oddíl Dubicko Třeština-Háj riding club offers riding lessons for adults and young people. The equestrian facility has 20 horse stalls, large paddocks, a large sand arena and an indoor riding hall.
If you are looking for accommodation in Třeština, you can focus your trip on these documented themes: exploring historic places, cycling, observing nature or active days with horses and canoeing equipment. Other places to include in your travel plans are Dlouhomilov, Janoušov, Jakubovice, Potůčník, Loucná Nad Desnou, Hrabová, Bohuslavice Nad Moravou and Postřelmůvek.
