Bílčice: Local History and Cycling Routes

Bílčice is a medium-sized agricultural municipality on the right bank of the Moravice. The village combines a complex history with several cycling routes linking it to Dětřichov nad Bystřicí, Slezská Harta and other places in the region. If you are looking for a mixture of cultural history and active outings on your trip, you can therefore get to know Bílčice from two different perspectives.

Historic Traces in the Village

The first known mention of Bílčice dates from 1410. At that time, Petr z Kravař and Plumlova transferred the village to the town of Dvorce. By 1569 at the latest, Bílčice also had a Protestant vicarage. These two dates show that the village was already part of regional political and religious contexts in the Middle Ages and the early modern period.

A visible landmark is the Church of St Margaret with the cemetery's surrounding wall. The entire ensemble has been protected as an immovable cultural monument since 3 May 1958. This provides a specific point of reference for a cultural and historical tour of the village, while the history of Bílčice also extends beyond individual dates.

The history of the village also includes the ruins of Šternek Castle. The castle was first mentioned in 1397 and had already been abandoned by 1480. Today, Šternek is designated as an important archaeological site. The castle's early mention and later abandonment mark a clearly traceable historical development; at the same time, its designation as an archaeological site should not be confused with any statement about current opening hours or regular access.

Cycling Routes with Different Profiles

Cycling route 6152 ends in Bílčice, starts in Dětřichov nad Bystřicí and passes through Panské Louky.

Cycling route 6142 connects Slezská Harta with Štěrkovec and passes through Bílčice, Roudno, Nová Pláň, Valšov and Břidličná. It is 41.5 kilometres long and runs at elevations between 490 and 860 metres above sea level. On this connection, Bílčice lies along the route between the two endpoints.

The 43.9-kilometre cycling route “Around the Slezská Harta dam” passes through Bílčice as well as Leskovec nad Moravicí, Roudno, Nová Pláň, Valšov and Mezina. The route is classified as difficult and runs over asphalt and gravel surfaces. At 43.9 kilometres, it is 2.4 kilometres longer than cycling route 6142.
