Loučky between Nature and Local History

Loučky is located in the Český ráj Geopark and combines landscapes, trails and remarkable evidence of local history. The Podloučky Nature Monument also includes the cadastral area of Loučky. It protects communities of xerothermic grasslands as well as preserved species-rich beech forests, home to specially protected species. These include, among others, the red helleborine, white helleborine, spring cinquefoil, martagon lily and gentian. This makes it a destination where you can combine observing nature with exploring a small village.

Landscape and Trails around Loučky

A wild pear tree grows along the road to Fialník and was declared a memorial tree in 2023. At the southern edge of Loučky, there is also a fossil site described as the most important site of Middle Turonian fossils in Bohemia. Both places give the landscape a distinctive historical and natural-history character, without reducing Loučky to a single attraction.

Specific routes are also documented to help with orientation on an active day trip: the green cycle route No. 4099 from Malá Skála to Chutnovka runs through Loučky. The blue hiking trail from Malá Skála to Rotštejn also passes through the village. The two routes differ in their designated use: the green route is for cycling, while the blue route is for hiking.

Museum, Church and Places of Remembrance

A cultural highlight is the small “Výstavní zastavení” museum. Around 3 m² of exhibition space can be seen there. Visitors can view the Loučecký nativity scene and learn about the history of Loučky and the life of the teacher and prominent native son František Hořák. The museum also displays a fragment of the original church bell from 1862. The former school building now serves as the “Výstavní zastavení” exhibition venue and as the municipal office.

The Church of St. Anthony of Padua, Kostel sv. Antonína Paduánského, is also part of the village’s history. The church was built between 1787 and 1790 by the noble Des Fours family and is an example of a simple rural Baroque church. It has been protected as a cultural monument since January 19, 2009. A valuable 19th-century crucifix stands in the cemetery near the entrance.

Further traces lead to the history of education and community life. The present-day school building in Loučky was constructed between 1882 and 1883 and has essentially retained its form to this day. A memorial plaque on the façade of the Sokolovna commemorates František Hořák. TJ Sokol Loučky was founded on November 19, 1903; its statutes were approved on February 26, 1904.
