Slunečná between Landscape and Local History

Slunečná combines local history, protected landscape and glass art. At its centre lies Farská louka next to the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary; it is situated in the eastern part of the České středohoří Protected Landscape Area. This creates a place where nature, religious architecture and craft culture come together in close proximity.

Farská louka and Its Nature

Farská louka is particularly characterised by its seasonal and animal diversity. Every year, the naturalised white-flowering crocus blooms there after the snow melts. The meadow is also home to large and stable populations of the common toad, the common frog and the slow worm. These specific natural features give a stay in Slunečná a clearly recognisable connection to the landscape and make the meadow a remarkable part of the village. The meadow thus combines a seasonal botanical aspect with opportunities to observe amphibians and reptiles.

The Church and Rectory as Historical Points of Reference

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was built between 1846 and 1850 from a bequest left by the glass merchant Johann Georg Jirschik. It was consecrated on 15 August 1850. The rectory, built in 1880 and administered by the Order of Malta, stands directly next to the church. Anyone interested in the development of Slunečná will find several clearly dated testimonies to the village’s history here, concentrated in the area around Farská louka.

Hiking, Mountains and Glass Art

For an active day out, the Výroční Trail, Stage II: Češka–Slunečná–Žandov, is a good option. The hiking route is 14 kilometres long and rated moderately difficult. The 14-kilometre length and moderate difficulty rating provide a clear framework for planning your day; the route connects Češka, Slunečná and Žandov. The mountains of Špičák, Kozel, Klič and Malý Buk are also located around Slunečná. Another side of the village is revealed by the Hoineff Glass Art studio. There, you can observe the fusing technique up close and discover how glass sculptures are made. The studio focuses primarily on original glass art created using unique and technically demanding processes. Visitors are offered house-roasted coffee while Hoineff tells them his story. The combination of fusing, original glass art and house-roasted coffee appeals to a variety of interests: you can observe the production process while also listening to Hoineff’s story.

Postelwitzer Höhe is a viewpoint, while Kaple Nejsvětější Trojice is a church.
