Dolní Cerná Studnice – Hiking, Views and History
Accommodation in Dolní Cerná Studnice
Dolní Cerná Studnice combines a rather mountainous character with unusual historical traces and manageable excursion destinations. The landscape on the slopes of the Černostudniční hřeben ridge can be explored on foot or by bicycle. At the same time, a stream, a former mining site and the history of former inns tell of the special development of this place.
Mountain Landscape and the Žernovník Stream
The Žernovník stream rises in Dolní Černá Studnice, flows through Huť and Bratříkov and flows into the Jizera near Železný Brod. The mountains of Maršovicky vrch, Černá Studnice and Pustina are located nearby. Mariánská hora belongs to the wider regional surroundings.
Walk to the Lookout Tower
An approximately 2 km walk leads from Dolní Černá Studnice to Horní Černá Studnice. A lookout tower stands on the summit; it is 26 metres high and reached by climbing 91 steps. For planning your excursion, you can consider the approximately 2 km walk to Horní Černá Studnice, the ascent via 91 steps and the ridge trail to the “Berany” trail junction as separate sections.
If the Černá Studnice lookout tower is closed, a rock 50 m away offers a partial view. The rock was already prepared as a viewpoint in 1885. A ridge trail also takes you to the “Berany” trail junction. The summit of Černá Studnice can be reached directly by car or bicycle; the access route described leads via Dolní Černá Studnice.
Archaeological Traces and Regional History
An archaeological mining and processing area dating from the 6th millennium BC was discovered in Dolní Černá Studnice. It was an early area for the extraction and processing of material. The find is considered one of the oldest surviving landscape relics of mining in Central and Western Europe.
The source of the Žernovník also has a historical tradition: It was formerly surrounded by beech trees whose trunks were covered with votive images. At the foot of Černostudniční kopec, there was presumably an inn for travellers as early as the end of the 16th century. A visit therefore brings together archaeological traces from the 6th millennium BC and the history of an inn that presumably welcomed travellers as early as the end of the 16th century. A historic inn hosted dances, wedding celebrations and graduation reunions in the 1960s. However, it burned down and was not rebuilt.
Excursions in the Wider Surroundings
The Valdštejn Church, located in the wider regional surroundings of Dolní Černá Studnice, is also part of the regional orientation. This allows you to shape your stay around a walk to the lookout tower, trails along the mountain ridge and cultural and historical discoveries. When choosing accommodation, the desired combination of landscape, views, activity and history is therefore particularly important.
