Scheibenreuth (Okrouhlá) lies 12 km east of Cheb on the left bank of the Jesenická Reservoir. A memorial oak and a wooden sculpture give the village a distinctive cultural and historical connection; there are also seasonal craft workshops, a campsite with swimming facilities, and a cycling route through several villages. Scheibenreuth thus combines local history and a connection to the water with specific opportunities for exercise and seasonal activities. When planning your stay, you can decide whether history, the water, or activities in the surrounding area should be your main focus.

Waterside Setting and Landscape

The village stretches along the slopes around the Jesenický potok, which flows into the Jesenická Reservoir. Alongside the lakeside setting, there is a second landscape feature: the stream that leads to the reservoir. The hillside, stream, and lake form a clear sequence, while the location on the left bank pinpoints Scheibenreuth’s relationship to the Jesenická Reservoir.

History in the Oak and Sculpture

The first written references to Okrouhlá date from 1299, when the estate belonged to the Paulsdorfer family. On the edge of the former castle park stands the “Valdštejn Oak” memorial oak; in 1910, it was ceremonially named in honor of Albrecht z Valdštejna. The dates mark different aspects of the village’s history: 1299 for the earliest written reference, and 1910 for the naming of the oak. Its trunk circumference is 674 cm; it is one of the largest oaks in the Cheb area. In the center of Okrouhlá, beneath the memorial oak, stands the wooden sculpture “Ležícího Valdštejna.” The name Valdštejn thus appears both in the dedication of the oak and in the title of the sculpture. The fortress of Okrouhlá is not open to the public.

Exercise and Seasonal Activities

Outdoor exercise equipment for children, teenagers, and adults is installed in the park next to the pergola. This adds a specific opportunity for exercise for several age groups to the historical points of interest. Easter, autumn, and Christmas craft workshops are held regularly in Scheibenreuth. If you would like to include one of these seasonal events in your stay, check the specific dates in advance.

There is also a campsite in the municipality, with camping facilities, a place to swim, and safe access to the water. Before visiting, check the current conditions along the shore and the state of the facilities.

A route listing dated November 5, 2006, shows cycle route 397 2129 passing through Úbočí, Milíkov, Okrouhlá, Lipová, and Mýtina; it is designated CZ/D 22. Before setting out, check whether the route markings are up to date.

The forests around Okrouhlá are considered rich in mushroom-picking opportunities; conditions vary by season. For planning purposes, these nature-related activities differ significantly: the cycling route lists a sequence of villages, while mushroom picking depends more on seasonal conditions.
