Bezvěrov – Hiking Route, Monuments and History

Bezvěrov combines a published hiking route with tangible traces of its history. Until 1945, the place was known by the German name Weserau and was first mentioned in writing in 1273 in a papal document issued by Pope Gregory X as property of the Premonstratensian monastery in Teplá. Road II/198 also passes through Bezvěrov. Historical orientation and a specific reason for taking a hike thus come together here.

Hiking Route with Two Lengths

The published route from Výškovice to Bezvěrov as part of “Setkání v Bezvěrově” is 4.3 km long. Optional detours extend it to 7.3 km. The route passes along an avenue and by a monument; an optional detour also leads to restored small monuments in a wooded area and in fields. The Hike in September 2026

The 15th edition of the hike and social event “SETKÁNÍ V BEZVĚROVĚ” is scheduled to end in Bezvěrov on 13 September 2026. The place is thus described both as the destination of this planned event and as the setting for a route with historical stops.

Stone Monument and Local History

A stone monument dating from 1860 has been preserved in Bezvěrov and was restored by the town of Teplá. Its history goes back to the local farmer Karl Punzet: he had it erected as a votive offering after surviving an accident involving a wagon loaded with stones on 11 July 1854. A relief on the side depicts this accident. The monument thus connects a preserved object with a specific, documented personal story.

Historical Traces in the Village

The former village chapel is also part of Bezvěrov’s history. A small village chapel once stood there, but, like several houses in the village, it was demolished in the period after 1945. A visit to the village therefore draws attention not only to preserved monuments, but also to historical changes that are no longer fully visible in the present-day villagescape.
