Zdobnice in the Orlické Mountains
Zdobnice lies in the valley of the river of the same name in the Orlické Mountains. The municipality is located between the Říčky and Deštné ski areas; most of its territory lies within the Orlické Mountains Protected Landscape Area. Zdobnice thus combines mountain scenery, protected nature and various opportunities for active days. Its distinctly recreational character complements the sporting activities with peaceful experiences in nature and trips in different seasons.
Nature among bogs, springs and mountain meadows
The Kačerov Nature Reserve in the municipality of Zdobnice protects wet meadows, transitional bogs, springs and mountain meadows that are home to rare and endangered species. The area is freely accessible to visitors. However, entering the bog and spring areas is not recommended. For a nature outing, the accessible surroundings are therefore more important than crossing the sensitive areas.
The U Kunštátské kaple Nature Monument also reveals the distinctive features of the Orlické Mountains. It protects a ridge bog with remarkable flora. The nature monument can be viewed from the red-marked ridge trail without entering the protected area. The highly endangered and protected common butterwort, Pinguicula vulgaris, is found in the Pod Zakletým protected area.
The landscape around Zdobnice also invites visitors to go for walks and pick mushrooms outside the main season. Zdobnice also offers suitable conditions for hiking and cycling. This makes it possible to combine quieter days in nature with more active pursuits when planning a trip.
Cycling on the Zdobnice Singletrack
The Zdobnice Singletrack is available for mountain biking. It is a network of more than 10 kilometres of one-way mountain bike trails. The main entrance is located at the fire pond in Zdobnice. The entrance area also has a practice trail, a pump track, a bicycle service station and a charging station for electric bicycles.
Winter sports with skiing and cross-country skiing
At Ski Centrum Zdobnice, evening skiing is regularly offered on the main slope. The centre has a 100-metre-long slope with a moderate gradient and a rope tow. This facility is suitable for learning the basics of skiing and snowboarding.
A cross-country skiing circuit runs directly through Zdobnice. A suitable starting point is considered to be a location approximately 200 metres above the Zdobnice church, on a yellow-marked hiking trail. The approximate location of the starting point is thus clearly described without specifying an exact trail length or walking time.
Chapels and views in the valley
The Church of the Good Shepherd, consecrated in 1789, is one of the town's historic landmarks. The Kunštátská Chapel, the Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary, was built in Zdobnice in 1671. The Chapel of Saint Anne dates from 1838. From there, there is a view across the entire Zdobnice Valley.
When making a further choice of destination, you can also include Čertův Důl. In Zdobnice itself, the focus is on the combination of the Orlické Mountains, protected landscapes, cycling trails, winter sports and small historic buildings.
