Kvasiny: Castle, Bělá and Cultural Experiences
Kvasiny lies in the valley of the Bělá River and combines a striking castle complex with a diverse cultural history. For you, this means a destination where the landscape, historical exhibitions and local events are closely connected with the character of the town. The castle and park complex is situated on a terrace and on a slope above the left bank of the Bělá. The castle park contains a pond and a wooden hut.
Landscape and Historical Waterworks
One of Kvasiny’s distinctive features is the Dlouhá strouha. The canal begins in Kvasiny at the Bělá and runs along the northwestern edge of the municipality. The section passing through Kvasiny is built from large stones. Historically, the waterway powered the mills of Solnice. Today, this former function is part of the town’s history and adds to the picture of a place whose development was closely connected with the river and water engineering.
The preserved stone bridge over the Bělá is also one of the town’s specific historical features. Road II/321 from Častolovice to Deštné is also important for orientation: it passes through the built-up area of Kvasiny. Thus, Kvasiny brings together a river landscape, historic structures and a transport route running through the town.
Kvasiny Castle and Its Exhibitions
Kvasiny Castle is a Renaissance building dating from the mid-17th century. Inside, there is a historical exhibition on the history of the Janeček family and JAWA. Another permanent exhibition is dedicated to dolls, puppet theatre and home theatres. This brings different themes together in the castle: the history of the Janeček family, technical culture and the world of theatre.
The castle complex also includes the Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua. It features illusionistic wall paintings and historic organs. Saint Anthony also plays a role in local traditions, as a pilgrimage to him is one of Kvasiny’s cultural and social traditions. The castle complex is therefore not merely a single historic building, but a place with architecture, collections, religious history and recurring events.
Events for Different Interests
The Evening Fairy-Tale Forest takes place annually in the castle park. Children encounter fairy-tale characters there and complete games and tasks. The Children’s Day in Kvasiny also includes a walk through a fairy-tale forest. A summer volleyball tournament is traditionally held on the first weekend of July.
The Půtovy zámecké slavnosti have been held in the castle grounds of Kvasiny since 2018; the ninth edition was announced for 2026. The program includes a medieval battle, a knightly tournament, a falconry display, a puppet theatre and an acrobatic fire show. The event Zámecká neděle s auto-moto veterány at Kvasiny Castle also takes place regularly. The 13th edition, featuring JAWA motorcycles and other historic vehicles, was announced for 2026. The Kvasinská pouť was held from June 12 to 14, 2026, at the Kvasiny Cultural Centre.
