Rytířova Lhota Between Landscape and History
Rytířova Lhota is located in the Český ráj Protected Landscape Area and combines a protected landscape with a distinct historic character. The settlement’s origins are dated to the reign of the last Přemyslid king, Václav III. At the same time, Rytířova Lhota is considered a typical example of folk architecture in Český ráj. Those who wish to combine nature and culture on a trip will find a place here whose landscape and past together shape the stay.
At the beginning of the Hussite unrest, Rytířova Lhota had eight house numbers. After a clash with the Hussites, almost the entire settlement burned down, and Jindřich Hrzanovský was expelled. The folk architecture and the events of the Hussite unrest emphasize different aspects: on the one hand, there is the building tradition; on the other, the profound disruption to the settlement’s history. Visitors interested in culture thus experience a place where historical development and rural character are closely intertwined.
Hiking Routes with Different Profiles
Two hiking connections with different profiles are available for active days. The Trosky–Kost route runs between Pleskotský mlýn and Podkost via Rytířova Lhota. It is just over 16 km long and is considered difficult. The longer distance therefore sets the pace for an extended day of hiking. The Kost–Trosky hiking route leads from the Bílý rybník signpost in Prokopské údolí to Rytířova Lhota and then downhill to Pleskotský mlýn. It is just over 14 km long and moderately difficult. The different lengths and ratings make it easier to choose between the more demanding and the slightly shorter hiking profile.
In 2021, a field path lined by an avenue of fruit trees was created between Libošovice and Rytířova Lhota. It complements the longer connections with a landscape-focused section between the two places. This makes it possible to experience the surroundings not only via the major hiking routes, but also along the tree-lined path.
The Podtrosecká údolí Nature Reserve is home to 146 species of higher plants, including 18 specially protected species. The protected flora adds a nature-observation element to the hiking themes, where it is not only the distance covered that matters. The combination of hiking trails, a fruit-tree avenue, and a species-rich nature reserve thus offers different focal points for a day in the surrounding area.
