Hubálov between a Long-Distance Cycling Route and Local History

Hubálov offers a clear reason to travel if you would like to combine cycling with small cultural and historical discoveries: the international long-distance cycling route No. 14 Odra–Nisa passes through the village. This gives Hubálov a specific connection to a regional cycling route, while the history of the village can be traced at several sites of its own. When choosing accommodation, it is therefore particularly worth considering whether you would like to focus on Hubálov itself, the cycling route, or the cultural destinations as part of your wider travel plans.

A Village with a Long History

Hubálov was first mentioned in 1373. The name of the village also points to an older settlement history: it probably derives from the designation “Hubálův dvůr.” Hubálov and Tuř also share a common history spanning around half a millennium. Hubálov belongs to the municipality of Tuř; the connection between the village and the municipality is therefore not merely a current administrative fact, but is also linked to a local history that has developed over a longer period.

Traces in the Centre and the Landscape

Visible points of interest in Hubálov include a statue of Saint Wenceslas and the wooden bell tower. In 2008, a new dignified location for this bell tower was found in the centre of the village. Those passing through Hubálov will therefore encounter different forms of local remembrance: the statue refers to a religious tradition, while the wooden bell tower has been given its own place in the village centre.

A local stream also flows through Hubálov. It is not a promise of a large-scale landscape experience, but a specific feature of the village that contributes to its local character. Together with the route, the centre, and the historical references, this creates a destination whose appeal lies more in its individual, manageable details than in a long list of major sights.

Community and Local Traditions

The municipality of Tuř, to which Hubálov belongs, holds a children’s day every year.

At the Knihovna U zvoničky library in Hubálov, younger and older readers meet by prior arrangement either every Friday or every two weeks. There is also a library lending point there. The library is therefore described not only in terms of its books, but also as a local meeting place where different age groups come together. Another tradition was listed as an activity at a meeting of the Hubálov local committee in November 2024: the traditional switching-on of the Christmas lights. This information describes the entry as it stood at that time and is not a current events calendar.

A Cultural Point of Interest in Jičín

Possible cultural additions include the Jezuitská kolej in Jičín. This is an extensive Jesuit building complex near the Church of Saint Ignatius of Loyola. It can currently be accessed only on individual open days. Anyone wishing to include this destination should therefore not treat the opportunity to visit it as equivalent to a sight that is open at any time.

Further Places for Your Research

If you would like to compare other destinations from the same overview in addition to Hubálov, you can also look at Kovač, Holovousy, Vřesník, Pecka, Jinolice, Jicineves, Třtěnice and Budčeves.
