Xaverov Between Local History and Landscape
Xaverov combines religious landmarks, a varied local history and paths through a wooded landscape within a small area. A prominent landmark is the chapel on the hill above Xaverov. Three mature horse chestnut trees define its surroundings and give the site a distinctive landscape character. Next to the cemetery stands a monument to those who fell in the First World War. The cemetery itself also contains a cross with a depiction of Christ. Those who want to discover not only the landscape but also the visible traces of a place during their stay will find several different points of interest here.
Historical Traces Around Xaverov
The history of the village goes back to the former Choratice glassworks. It operated from 1730 to 1746 at the site where Xaverov was established. Another turning point came in 1752: the estate in Xaverov was acquired by the Prague Jesuit College and renamed Xaverhof in honour of Saint Francis Xavier. The present name of the village is connected with this earlier history of ownership and settlement. The former glassworks is thus explicitly part of the village's past.
Forests, Blaník and the Central Posázaví Region
The administrative area of Xaverov is characterised by wooded areas to the north and south. These form a valuable landscape setting; the landscape in this part of the Benešov region is suitable for recreation. Mount Blaník is also clearly visible from Xaverov. Due to its short distance from the Sázava, Xaverov is often considered part of the central Posázaví region. The village can therefore be viewed both through its immediate forest landscape and through its regional setting.
Routes for Various Excursion Directions
A yellow-marked hiking trail is important for orientation in the area. It runs through the northern part of Xaverov's territory from west to east. Between Xaverov and Choratice, it is also possible to turn onto an approximately 16-kilometre circular route along field paths. The route leads to the Čestín forester's lodge and to Drahňovice. Another option is the cycle route via Bělokozly to Xaverov and then onwards to Choratice.
