Vlastejovice: Sázava, cycle route and cultural monument

Vlastějovice between the Sázava and Fiolník

Vlastějovice combines riverside scenery, cycle paths and a multifaceted local history. The Sázava flows through the town, while Mount Fiolník rises to the northeast. There is also a historic market town, a cultural monument and specific points of interest along the routes towards Budčice and Pertoltice. This makes it a destination where nature, activity and history can be combined without any single theme fully defining the place.

River, fishing and cycle route

The Sázava is 218 km long in total; 208 km of it is navigable, though not all year round. If you are planning a trip on the Sázava, take into account its seasonal navigability and the difference between the 208 navigable kilometres and the total length of 218 kilometres. Fishing is possible on the Sázava in Vlastějovice. The SÁZAVA 10 fishing grounds, managed by MO ČRS Vlastějovice and bearing fishing-ground number 411 081, extend from the weir in Březina near Vlastějovice to the mill weir in Chřenovice. The section is 8 km long and covers 28 hectares.

The Posázavská Cycle Route No. 19 also passes through Vlastějovice. Nearby, a 2 km cycle route leads from Vlastějovice towards Budčice to a weir with seating and refreshment facilities. There is also a boat rental service at the weir near Budčice. A drinking-water spring is located on the road from Vlastějovice towards Pertoltice. The Posázavská Cycle Route No. 19 also runs along this section of road; the spring offers an opportunity to refresh yourself and rest.

From village to market town

Vlastějovice was first mentioned as a village in 1413, when it belonged to the Pertoltice parish. On 1 February 1540, the settlement was elevated to market-town status. These two dates provide a clear timeline for the town’s history and explain why, alongside the riverside landscape, historical traces are also part of planning a visit.

An important cultural landmark is Dům s kaplí. The building originated as a 16th-century fortress and was converted into a Baroque chateau after 1689. Dům s kaplí is a cultural monument in Vlastějovice. A low building with the Baroque Chapel of Saint Mary Magdalene has survived from the chateau. This means that what is highlighted here is not merely a single building, but the development of a historic townscape.

Fiolník and its mining history

Mount Fiolník (Fialník) rises to 526 metres northeast of Vlastějovice and is notable for its natural wealth. The magnetite deposit at Fiolník above Vlastějovice contained more than 60% iron. A Gothic mining church also stood on Mount Fiolník north of Vlastějovice; it was dissolved during the Josephine reforms. The landscape and history here are therefore closely linked to the mountain’s former use.
