Semtěš at the foot of the Železné hory

Semtěš lies at the foot of the Železné hory mountain range and combines a distinctive fortress history with diverse opportunities for cultural and active days out. Traces of a fortified Iron Age settlement have been preserved in the village. This means that the history of Semtěš began long before the structures that shape the village today and form the focus of exploration on site. The Iron Age traces and the later structures thus represent different historical layers existing side by side.

Bašta: Fortress Tower with a View

The tower of Semtěš Fortress, known as “Bašta”, is a 22-metre-high prismatic tower made of dark rubble stone. It was built in the 14th century as part of a lordly residence. In 1997–1998, Bašta was reconstructed and converted into a lookout tower. From there, panoramic views extend over the Železné hory and the surroundings of Čáslav. The tower therefore combines its medieval function as part of a lordly residence with its later use as a viewpoint.

Church and Pelíškova síň

The Evangelical Reformed Church in Semtěš is part of the area’s architectural and religious history. It was built in 1860–1862 and ceremonially opened on 15 September 1867. Its organ dates from 1915. Cycling and Hiking around Semtěš

Cycle Route 4188 is available for active exploration and is classified as not very demanding. On the Řečany nad Labem–Semtěš section, it runs via Podhořany to Pařížov.
