Petříkov – History, Nature and Cycling in Czechia

Petříkov combines local history, landscape and cycling. Historical Traces in Petříkov

The Petříkov bell tower was consecrated in 1913 and is one of the municipality’s three historical monuments. During restoration in 2014, it was supplemented with an image featuring a religious motif. The 1913 consecration and the 2014 addition thus connect two historical stages in the tower’s history.

The Petříkov war memorial stands in the park in the centre of the village. It was moved to its current location in 1962. The memorial lists a total of 16 inhabitants of Petříkov and Radimovice who died in the First and Second World Wars. Another religiously themed landmark is the Petříkov iron cross. It stands on the right side of the road towards Radimovice, depicts Christ as a young man and bears the inscription INRI. Together with the bell tower, it adds a distinctive landmark along the road to the historical sites in the municipality.

Landscape Between Ponds and Forest

The Petříkov municipality borders the northern boundary of the Velkopopovicko Nature Park. The local landscape also includes five ponds; Starý rybník is one of them. Fields, meadows and extensive forest areas create different landscape spaces that define the character of the municipality. The combination of open areas, ponds and forest gives the surroundings a variety of views and makes the transition between the built-up area and the landscape particularly clear.

According to local tradition, the ramparts attributed to the former fortress are still visible in the Čertovka forest. Local tradition connects these visible ramparts with the former fortress. Thus, the monuments in the village face a landscape in which traces of the past also have their place.

Cycling and Orientation for Your Stay

Local cycle route 0028 runs through Modletice, Popovičky, Radimovice, Petříkov and Velké Popovice. This sequence connects several municipalities and places Petříkov within a longer cycling tour through the surrounding area. A cycling trip following in the footsteps of the Ringhoffer family uses a blue hiking trail through the park as well as cycle route 0028 to Petříkov and Radimovice. This means that the trip combines a section through the park with the local connections provided by the cycle route.

There is a bus connection from Petříkov to the nearby Strančice railway station throughout the day. This connection complements the cycle route with a public transport option between the village and the station. Together with the PID connection, this provides important guidance when choosing a location and conducting further research for your stay. Petříkov is therefore suitable as a destination for different interests: local history can be combined with exploring the landscape or taking a cycling tour, without the local attractions being limited to a single sight.
