Nemíž: Nature, History and a Special Hike

For trip planning, Nemíž brings together a protected juniper area, a chapel with specific access information, a local history dating back to 1471, and the “Putování okolo Tehova” hiking event. This makes it possible to explore the village through nature, local history and a group hike.

The “Na ostrově” Juniper Area

The natural attraction is the protected “Na ostrově” site. It was established on 29 December 1972 in the cadastral area of Nemiž to protect an important location of common juniper (Juniperus communis). The area covers 4.21 hectares. Common juniper is therefore the focus of the protected area. The site draws attention to the juniper location itself. For nature enthusiasts, its appeal lies in the combination of protected landscape and a clearly identified plant species.

The “Putování okolo Tehova” Hiking Event

One specific way to experience the landscape as part of a group activity was the “Putování okolo Tehova” hiking event. It took place on Saturday, 19 October 2024, and lasted approximately five hours. During this hike, participants visited a protected juniper area. The local “Spolkovně” in Nemíž served as the first refreshment station. The approximate duration of five hours provides a clear time frame for the hiking day; the group outing therefore lasted several hours. The first refreshment station in Nemíž marked a specific stop during the event. Together with the visit to the protected juniper area, the event combined exercise, nature and time spent in the village. The date of 19 October 2024 placed this experience in autumn and gave the outing a clear seasonal setting.

Chapel and Practical Information

Nemíž is home to the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk. No regular services are held there. The chapel is also not accessible to people with disabilities. Anyone including the chapel in their tour of the village should take its lack of accessibility into account as a practical limitation.

Nemíž in History

The first written reference to Nemíž dates from 1471. In the 19th century, Nemíž was a settlement belonging to the municipality of Ctiboř. In the censuses of 1869 and 1880, the village was referred to as Němče, and in 1890 as Němiž. The local history thus extends from the first written reference to the administrative and census names used in the 19th century. For those interested in culture, this provides a second way to approach Nemíž alongside its natural setting: the development of a village over several centuries.

Transport Information for the Municipality of Tehov

In the municipality of Tehov, Road II/125 runs through Kolín, Psáře, the D1 motorway, Tehov, Vlašim and Mladá Vožice. The D1 motorway is 2.5 km away and can be reached via Exit 49 (Psáře). The road therefore connects several places with the D1. For regional car travel, Exit 49 near Psáře provides a fixed point of reference.
