Milčice – Village History, Trails and Ponds

Milčice combines vivid village history with paths through the countryside and distinctive traces by the water. At its center is Milčická náves, which has always been the hub of village life and still preserves remarkable historic objects. Its most important site is the farmhouse of the scribe František Jan Vavák. Vavák was the local village judge, chronicler and an important folk writer. If you would like to discover cultural history not only in large cities but also in a specific village setting, Milčice offers several clearly identifiable points of interest for this purpose.

Vavák, Village History and a Regional Themed Trail

Milčice is stop 8 on the regional project “Tajuplná místa Podlipanska”. The information board introduces František Jan Vavák and a local legend. The visit thus leads from the historic center to a narrative side of the place: personal history, local traditions and the village square come together here.

The Cesta Česka pilgrimage route also passes through Milčice. For planning purposes, this aspect can be combined with a visit to Milčická náves and the historic sites. This gives you access to the place not solely through individual sights, but through the connection between the route, village life and memory.

The Milčice Exhibition

The Milčice Exhibition is a permanent exhibition about Milčice in the former “Síň tradic”. It is open to the public every year on 8 May. Visits at other times must be arranged in advance with the Milčice Municipal Office and the curator, Eva Vyhlídalová. This specific arrangement is one of the most important points for anyone wishing to include the exhibition deliberately in their stay.

Cycle Path to Tatce and Routes in the Village

The 750-meter-long Milčice–Tatce cycle path runs from the municipal football field to Tatce railway station. Along the route, there are three rest areas with tables, benches, bicycle stands and waste bins. The precise length makes the route easy to place in context, while the facilities provide a clearly defined structure for taking a break.

Trees, Avenues and Ponds

On the outskirts of Milčice, on the road to Pečky, stands the protected “Památná hrušeň”, a common pear tree (Pyrus communis L.) planted around 1900. Javorová alej has benches, waste bins, a bicycle stand and an information board. The board provides information about the funding of its renewal as well as the nearby Natura 2000 site.

Behind the large pond of Milčice, two smaller, elongated ponds were created after 1985 in former peat extraction pits. Their flooding created refuges for rare animal and plant species. The area of water thus complements the cultural sites with a landscape focus that can be explored peacefully at your own pace.

Living Traditions and Further Orientation

On 20 March 2025, MŠ Milčice organized Vynášení Morany for the public. The procession ended with the traditional burning of Morana at a fire by the pond. In addition, “Havlíčkova lípa” was designated as a commemorative tree on 4 November 1999; a memorial stone stands beside it. Milčice thus presents itself as a place where village history, the landscape and traditional customs become visible in different forms.
