A village history with two strands
The first written mention of Jivina dates to 1368. That same year, Zbyněk Zajíc z Valdeka gave half of the village to the monastery of Svatá Dobrotivá. The other half followed a different ownership history: in 1537, it came into the possession of the Lobkovic family and remained under their rule until 1848. The year 1368 thus connects the earliest written reference with a specific donation; the stated sequence of ownership for the other part of the village began later.
Jivina’s more recent history has its own continuity. The Jivina volunteer fire brigade was founded in 1923 and is still active. It adds a local institution that continues to the present day to the village’s earlier history of ownership.
The chapel and elevation
The chapel stands on elevated ground in the southeastern part of Jivina. A cast-iron cross is located right beside it. Jivina itself lies at an elevation of 485 to 525 metres.
Hiking to Jivinská hora
The route “Přes Jivinu za podbrdskými roubenkami” leads from the edge of the village to Jivinská hora and reaches the lower of the two peaks at 612 metres. From the forested summit, there are views of Jivina and the surrounding area. The route description notes that some sections are unmarked. Before setting out, check the route and conditions rather than assuming the trail is marked throughout.
A yellow-marked hiking route also passes through Jivina. The two descriptions answer different wayfinding questions: the first route explicitly leads from the edge of the village to the lower peak; for the yellow-marked route, the key detail here is that it passes through the village. Check its markings on site before relying on them. When planning, you can distinguish between the summit destination and a route through Jivina without treating the two descriptions as interchangeable.
This distinction is useful when choosing a base for an overnight stay if hiking is part of your travel plans. Consider whether you are mainly interested in the route up to Jivinská hora or in a route through the village. The available information does not give walking times, so base your plans on specific route information and the current conditions.
