Jankov combines distinctive architectural history with sites commemorating its battle history and a landscape that can be explored via paths and a protected pond system. You can therefore get to know the village through historical sites, circular routes of varying lengths and nature-related impressions. The different themes give your stay several possible focal points, without requiring history and landscape to be viewed separately.

Church and Chapel on Jankov Square

The Church of St. John the Baptist in Jankov is Romanesque and dates from the first half of the 12th century. After the mid-13th century, it was extended, and it was remodeled at the end of the 17th century. The single-nave building has a semicircular presbytery. The sacred building thus combines several historical phases of development. You will find the church on the north side of Jankov Square, at the end of the park on a small promontory above a former fortification.

The center of the village also includes the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk. It is an unusual Rococo niche chapel with a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk and stands near the primary school in the upper part of the square. The church and chapel provide different focal points: here, the Romanesque architectural history is at the center, while there, the special form of the Rococo niche chapel takes precedence. Both stops can be included in a tour of Jankov.

Battle History and Memorial Sites

The Battle of Jankov took place on March 6, 1645; the Swedish army participated in it. The monument to the Battle of Jankov stands between Jankov and Ratměřice and was erected in 1995 for the 350th anniversary of the battle. A memorial room dedicated to the Battle of Jankov is open by arrangement with the municipal office. Several points of interest thus lead from the historical context to a specific monument and to a room dedicated to the battle.

Circular Routes with Two Clearly Defined Distances

The longer circular route of the educational trail “In the Footsteps of the Battle of Jankov” is approximately 14 kilometers long. The shorter circular route via the “U Hartman” viewpoint measures approximately 9 kilometers. The two distances make it easier to plan a shorter or more extensive day of hiking, while the viewpoint provides a separate destination within the shorter option. The section from Jankov Square to the monument to the Battle of Jankov is also accessible to wheelchair users. This means that this section can be considered independently of the choice between the longer and shorter circular route.

Pond System and Edge of the Nature Park

The Jankov pond system is home to a species-rich protected fauna and flora. In addition, an educational trail leads to the edge of the Džbány-Žebrák Nature Park. Alongside the battle history and sacred buildings, observing the protected landscape is therefore also one of the themes of the village. When choosing a hotel in Jankov, you can first decide whether your stay should focus primarily on the historical sites, the battle history, the documented trails or the nature-related themes.
