Chocerady on the Sázava

Chocerady lies on the banks of the Sázava and combines a river landscape with cultural and excursion destinations. The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary stands in the village square. It is originally Gothic. On the north side of the presbytery, or sanctuary, there is an altar with columns dating from 1750 and featuring an image of the Infant Jesus of Prague. Nearby stands a rectory dating from 1705. The sequence of a Gothic origin, a Baroque altar and the older rectory makes several historical layers visible in this village centre.

Cultural and historical destinations around the town

Komorní Hrádek features Renaissance and Baroque construction phases, but is generally not open to the public. Once a year, as part of European Heritage Days, Komorní Hrádek holds an open day. The complex also includes the Chapel of the Holy Trinity, which was consecrated on 15 February 2012.

In the forest below Vrážský vrch, near Komorní Hrádek, lies Loreta, a former pilgrimage chapel. It was founded in 1765 and visited by processions from the wider surrounding area. The former pilgrimage chapel was converted into a mausoleum in the Neo-Renaissance style in 1873. The cultural history of the area thus extends from medieval and Baroque construction phases to later religious uses.

Marked trails and Čejchanov

There are several clearly described connections for navigating the landscape. Marked cycle route No. 19 runs through the Chocerady area along an existing local road on the right bank of the Sázava. A red-marked hiking trail leads from Benešov via Loreta and a bridge to Chocerady. A second red-marked hiking trail runs along the right bank of the Sázava from Čerčany towards Sázava and connects in Chocerady. The blue-marked hiking trail leads from the signpost at Mount Chlum to the centre of Chocerady and ends at the junction with the yellow- and red-marked hiking trail. The different directions and markings make it easier to choose a route according to the starting point and destination.
