Řehenice: Archaeology, Cultural Heritage and a Specific Hiking Idea

Řehenice is a destination for anyone who wants to combine cultural history with a clearly described hike and short active breaks. The main attractions are the Božešice–Bořešice archaeological site, several buildings designated as historically significant ensembles, and an 8.5-kilometre route to Ládví Lookout Tower. This gives you different approaches when planning your trip: you can explore abandoned settlements and historic buildings or choose a defined route through several places and landscape viewpoints.

Božešice–Bořešice and the Fortification Site by the Pond

The Božešice–Bořešice archaeological site is located in the municipality of Řehenice and in the cadastral area of Babice u Řehenic. It is classified as an important archaeological site. Božešice–Bořešice was an abandoned village associated with a fortress. The village disappeared in the 15th century, and the later farmstead in the 17th century. This chronology makes the site particularly interesting if you want to understand historical changes not only through individual buildings but also through the development of a settlement.

The Božešice fortification site lies in the northeastern part of a small pond and is clearly visible despite dense vegetation. Its location by the water and the still recognisable layout give the archaeological site a tangible spatial context. For families with different interests, this place can be a shared point of discovery: while some focus on the visible traces of the fortification, the history of the village and farmstead provides the broader chronological context.

Historic Ensembles in Řehenice and Křiváček

The architectural history of the surrounding area is also shaped by monuments. The Zájezdní hostinec Křiváček is designated as an immovable cultural monument, including a protected zone. Křiváček is also a small settlement on the transport route between Prague and Benešov. A road leading from Křiváček to Řehenice is lined with a cherry tree avenue. This makes it possible to include Křiváček in your planning as a separate cultural and orientation point without conflating its various historical associations.

In Řehenice, the Poplužní dvůr Dařbož is designated as a historically significant building ensemble. Also in Řehenice, the former Vavřetice brickworks is designated as a historically significant building ensemble. The word “former” is part of the classification of Vavřetice and describes the historical status of the ensemble. Together with Božešice–Bořešice and Křiváček, this creates a selection of places where you can explore the history of the municipality through different types of sites.

Hiking via Gabrhele, Babice and Ládeves

If you would like to complement your stay with a defined route, an 8.5-kilometre hike follows the blue-marked trail via Gabrhele, Babice and Ládeves to Ládví Lookout Tower and onward to Ládví. The length of the route provides a concrete basis for planning your day. At the same time, the route connects several places with a lookout tower, so you do not have to focus your attention on just one destination. For an active outing, Řehenice also has a freely accessible table tennis table at a fire pond for anyone who would like to play sports.
