Pozděchov combines churches from different periods with the local fašanky tradition and the small hunting lodge “Trubiska.” The Pozděchov Nature Monument and hiking destinations such as the lookout tower on Vartovna add further highlights.

Churches from two different periods

The church dedicated to Saint George was built by Prokop, Count of Gollen, between 1700 and 1710 and consecrated on April 24, 1710. It stands on an elevated rocky site where an older church once stood. The construction period, consecration and history of the site are connected here: the present building stands on a site with an older church history.

The Protestant church was built between 1870 and 1874. It is a single-nave neo-Romanesque building with a four-sided tower at the entrance. “Single-nave” describes a building with one main nave; “neo-Romanesque” refers to a later adoption of Romanesque design forms. Around 160 years separate the end of construction of St. George’s Church from the beginning of work on the Protestant church. The two buildings thus offer different historical and architectural points of interest for a visit focused on cultural history.

Fašanky and Trubiska Hunting Lodge

In Pozděchov, the end of the carnival season is called fašanky. For many decades, a masked procession featuring a bear has accompanied this tradition. The procession gives the local name a tangible form and offers a different way to explore the town than its church history. If you are interested in local traditions, fašanky is a term you can associate with Pozděchov.

The hunting lodge “Trubiska” (Lovecký zámeček) is a small building made of log timber. Its history is connected with the Stillfried family of Ratěnice, which bought the Vizovice estate in 1815. Here, the building style and historical connection come together: the hunting lodge complements the churches with a different aspect of the town’s history.

Nature Monument and Hiking Destinations

The purpose of protecting the Pozděchov Nature Monument is to safeguard a site where white-flowered saffron grows. This adds a clearly defined natural-history theme alongside the buildings and history. If you choose Pozděchov for a stay, you can focus on either cultural interests or nature.

The Chodníček k rozhledně nature trail leads from Pozděchov to the lookout tower on Vartovna Mountain. Another hiking route, marked in blue, leads 2.3 km from Pozděchov to Trubiska Hunting Lodge. The destinations are different: one is a lookout tower, the other a hunting lodge. Check local trail conditions before setting out.

There is also a practical point to note when getting around the town: in one part of Pozděchov, a sidewalk allows pedestrians to walk away from the main road and reduces the risk of a collision with cars.

What to Consider When Choosing Accommodation
