Lomy combines historic traces, paths through the landscape and special viewpoints into a destination with several facets. Here you can discover a chapel from the early 19th century, mills on the Želetavka, monuments from different periods and opportunities for a stay combining local history, nature and activity.

Culture and History in Lomy

A prominent historical landmark is the Chapel of St. John and St. Paul. It dates from 1806 and thus represents a period when religious buildings shaped the appearance and cultural memory of many Bohemian and Moravian communities. For your visit, the chapel offers a concrete starting point for getting to know Lomy not only as a landscape destination but also through its history.

The local history also includes two mill names. The Lomský mlýn is part of Lomy and is located on the Želetavka. The connection between the mill and the river highlights another historical aspect of the place: waterways were not only landscape features but could also determine the location of traditional facilities. The mill “Lomský, Podcestný mlýn” was first mentioned in historical sources in 1511. This early mention dates significantly further back than the period when the chapel was built and provides a separate way to explore Lomy’s past.

The memorial sites of the 20th century are also part of the character of the place. Lomy has a monument to those who fell in the First World War, dating from 1920. Another monument commemorates fallen resistance fighters and dates from 1946. The two years mark different historical contexts and show that the history of Lomy is not limited to a single period.

Nature, Views and Trails

The Horka hill in Lomy offers views of the surrounding area. In favorable conditions, the snow-covered peaks of the Alps can also be seen. The snow-covered peaks are expressly dependent on favorable conditions.

Another remarkable natural feature can be found near Lŕomy’s children’s playground. A protected small-leaved lime tree grows there and has been protected since 2015.

For walks and hikes, a green-marked trail leads through Lomy to Radkovice u Budče. Anyone looking for a marked route through the village can use this trail as a specific reference point when planning their own excursion, without viewing Lomy merely as a stopover. In addition, a circular route leads from Jemnice via Lomy, Budkov, Kosová and Moravské Budějovice back to Jemnice. Lomy is therefore also part of a longer circuit connecting several places.

A Place with Different Ways to Explore

Further local opportunities include a natural swimming pool. Together with the green-marked hiking trail, it creates a contrast between time spent by the water and activity in the landscape. The chapel, mills and monuments provide cultural highlights, while Horka hill opens up views across the surrounding area. Depending on your interests, you can therefore explore Lomy through its history, nature, views or a trail route.
