Kožichovice – Spring, Markovka and Hluboček
Accommodation in Kožichovice
Kožichovice brings nature, water and local history together within a compact area. The Markovka stream flows through the village, while the protected Hluboček area features an unusual botanical speciality and a clearly documented protection status. There is also a spring, a chapel, memories of the inventor Matyáš Žďárský and an annual race. This makes it a destination where you can combine peaceful discoveries, culture and active pursuits.
Nature around Markovka and Hluboček
The Markovka stream flows through Kožichovice and is therefore a distinctive feature of the local landscape. The protected Hluboček area also lies within the cadastral territory of Kožichovice. Hluboček is a 2.203-hectare natural monument, first designated on 20 October 1983. Those interested in smaller protected areas and their special habitats will also find a growing locality of the two-leaved squill (Scilla bifolia).
Another water-related feature is the Markovka Reservoir. It covers 14 hectares and is used for recreation and fishing.
A spring, chapels and visible local history
The Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius was built over a water spring. The path to the spring leads from the southwest down a staircase alongside a stone wall. This specific route description makes the spring an especially tangible destination for anyone who wants to experience not only a building during a visit to the village, but also its setting and access.
On the village square in Kožichovice stands a chapel with an altar dating from 1892, dedicated to Saints Cyril and Methodius. The local heritage landscape is complemented by a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1791. Such individual buildings and memorial features give the village a cultural focus that can be explored independently of any major attraction.
Matyáš Žďárský and a recurring event
Kožichovice is also associated with the name Matyáš Žďárský. He was born in 1856 in a mill in Kožichovice. A memorial plaque has commemorated him at house no. 40 since 1993. The ski binding he developed laid the foundation for alpine skiing – a remarkable connection that links the village’s history with the development of winter sports.
Since 1993, the “Běh Matyáše Žďárského” race has taken place every year at the end of September under the patronage of Kožichovice and Třebíč. Alongside memorial sites that can be visited year-round, the event thus adds a regularly recurring occasion to your travel plans. This may make a difference to your stay if you would like to combine your trip with a specific local event.
The Třebíčský Circuit
The Třebíčský Circuit passes through Kožichovice: from the Hluboček signpost, it follows the western boundary of the municipal territory to Klučov.
