Benetice combines a distinctive village history with a landscape that can be explored along several routes. The village lies on the slope of a narrow valley that descends southward into the catchment area of the Klapůvka stream. It was founded as a colonization village no later than the first half of the 13th century; at that time, Benetice belonged to the Třebíč Benedictine monastery.

St. Mark’s Church and Historical Traces

The most important landmark in Benetice is St. Mark’s Church. The present church was built between 1853 and 1859 and consecrated on October 16, 1859. The construction period and consecration date thus mark a distinct period of the 19th century. The Benetice rectory is a historic building erected around 1760 for the former church. The two buildings therefore span several decades of local church history. The village’s history thus extends from its medieval foundation to the ecclesiastical buildings of the 18th and 19th centuries. Those interested in local traditions will also find a connection between Benetice and the legend “The Fulfilled Dream.”

Contemporary culture also has a place in the village. Benetice has a self-service bar with a gallery of pictures and paintings by student Karel Krejčí. The gallery thus brings works of art into an everyday village setting and differs from the historic buildings in the surrounding area.

Valley, Rocks and a Protected Sycamore

The landscape around Benetice has its own geological character. It includes scattered occurrences of granitic syenite rock and block formations. The protected sycamore “Velký Javor” also stands nearby. It is located at the edge of the forest, about 300 meters beyond the settlement of Věstoňovice, and is estimated to be 650 to 700 years old. The natural features also differ in their temporal classification: granitic syenite and block formations describe the geological character, while the estimated age of the sycamore indicates its long lifespan.

Hiking, Mountain Biking and Cycle Tourism

Benetice and its surroundings offer several options for active days. The deep forests around the village are crisscrossed by hiking trails. From Věstoňovice, a part of Benetice, marked hiking trails continue on foot or by mountain bike toward Čechtín or Vartenberk. The surrounding area also offers opportunities for cycle tourism. The marked routes continue in two directions: toward Čechtín or Vartenberk. For cycle tourism, however, the entire area around Benetice is the relevant setting. Those who want to get to know the landscape not only along its trails but also through its natural features can use the area for mushroom picking. When picking mushrooms, the focus is not on a specific route but on the landscape itself.
