Radostín Nad Oslavou combines an exceptional historic building with a gently hilly landscape and vibrant local cultural traditions. This makes the town suitable for travellers who, on their trip to the Czech Republic, want to discover not just a single attraction but various facets of a smaller destination: sacred architecture, nature, theatre, crafts and cycling.

St. Bartholomew and Historical Traces

The complex of the parish church of St. Bartholomew is the most important historic building in Radostín Nad Oslavou. At the same time, it is the only particularly notable monument in the town listed in the state register of immovable cultural monuments. The complex comprises the parish church building, a freestanding tower, a freestanding chapel and a brick enclosing wall. This means that the site can be viewed not only as a single church building, but as an architectural ensemble with several clearly distinguishable parts.

The original complex of the Early Gothic church was remodelled in the late Baroque style in the 1770s. During this remodelling, the nave was extended by about one third; the tower was also raised by the belfry level seen today. The church thus represents several building phases that can be traced within a single complex.

Hills, Valleys and Water in the Surrounding Area

The landscape around Radostín Nad Oslavou consists of slopes and fields in gently hilly surroundings. Forests close off the horizon. Streams flow through the valleys, and numerous ponds were built along them in the past. The largest watercourse associated with Radostín Nad Oslavou is the Oslava.

In the wider regional surroundings, Bohdalovsko Nature Park contains numerous ponds with rare plants and animals. For your travel planning, this creates a clear contrast between the town centre with its historic architecture and a landscape-oriented setting in which ponds, streams, fields and forests are the defining features.

Theatre, Crafts and Special Places

The amateur theatre ensemble Becheráček has its own cultural tradition. It was officially founded in 1911, and its tradition continues to this day. The premiere takes place regularly in March. Six further performances are attended by around 1,200 spectators from Radostín Nad Oslavou and the surrounding area. Those who want to discover local culture not only through historic buildings but also through community-supported events will find a distinct focus here.

At the Tvořivé večery events, participants create arrangements from dried and fresh plants, wire and beadwork, batik, embroidery, crochet work, felt items made from sheep’s wool and various decorations, among other things. Since 2013, a Christmas exhibition has been prepared annually during Advent, and since 2016, an Easter exhibition has also been held. Proceeds from admission fees and the sale of the items are used for charitable purposes.

North of Radostín Nad Oslavou, on Šibeniční vrch, lies the group of three crosses known as Tři kříže, forming a Calvary scene. Together with mature trees, it is a distinctive landscape feature. Švomův mlýn is also located east of the centre, by the bridge on the road to Kněževes. The building was already standing in Radostín Nad Oslavou around 1510.

Cycling as a Regional Connection

A cycle route runs through Radostín Nad Oslavou and forms part of a thematic regional cycling route almost 185 kilometres long.
