Dlouhé tells its story through specific places: a memorial, dated crosses, and an Evangelical cemetery offer insight into the remembrance and lives of earlier generations. The village lies on a plateau at an altitude of 555 metres and is surrounded by wooded hills. The circular route “Bobrová kolem kopce Kalvárie” also heads towards Dlouhé, offering another starting point for planning your trip.

A plateau and wooded hills

Dlouhé lies 9 km southeast of Nové Město na Moravě. Its location on the plateau and the surrounding hills give the village a distinct landscape setting. Its historic sites tell different stories: the memorial commemorates those who fell in both world wars, the cemetery reflects the presence of an Evangelical community, and the crosses bear their own names and dates. Visitors interested in local history can thus discover different forms of commemoration and remembrance, rather than focusing on just one attraction.

Crosses, cemetery, and local history

The present-day memorial to those who fell was erected in 1924 and commemorates those who died in both world wars. Kříž posledního rozloučení stands in the centre of Dlouhé and is dated 1879. At this cross, residents pause before setting out for a funeral service and say their farewells. Kříž pod Kopci stands on the road to Radešínská Svratka and bears the year 1903. Kříž Omladiny was erected in 1929 by the village youth on the road to Bobrová. Their different dates and locations make each cross its own landmark in the history of the village.

The Evangelical cemetery was laid out and established in 1888 by Evangelical residents of Dlouhé and Račice. The first person buried there was the local citizen Jan Chalupa. The village’s history also includes the decision, made in 1874, to build a bell tower with a small chapel. Rosa Milius-Malovetz, who ran a girls’ institute in Brno, donated an image of Saint Florian.

Ježkov (Frankfurt) also adds to the picture of local history: the settlement belongs to Dlouhé and is a remnant of a former ironworks. Zátoky is a manor forester’s lodge built in 1876. Together with the memorials, these places reflect different historical connections—from the ironworks and forester’s lodge to religious life and collective remembrance.
