Černá combines distinctive architectural history, an unusual modern chapel, connections to water and a distinctive Czech brewing culture. If you are looking for a place with specific discoveries rather than interchangeable sights for your trip, you will find several themes here that can be explored independently.

Castle history with a clear restriction

Černá Castle was built in the Renaissance style at the end of the 16th century. The two-storey building has a mansard roof; its defining feature is a three-storey rectangular tower. The castle therefore has a clearly recognisable architectural character that can already be described from its exterior form. At the same time, an important restriction should be taken into account when planning your trip: Following its reconstruction, the castle is closed to the public, including the village's residents. It should therefore not be planned as an interior that is regularly accessible. The local cultural history also includes several religious and listed buildings. In Milíkov stands an immovable cultural monument whose bell tower is designed as a polygonal central structure. Its distinctive details include an onion-shaped roof, an open lantern, a small roof structure and a cross.

The wooden chapel by the Křivý stream

The Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua holds a special place. It stands on the village green of Černá by the Křivý stream and was completed and consecrated in 2006. Its form and construction symbolise a wooden ark. This unusual architectural concept makes the chapel interesting even if you are interested in contemporary religious buildings and not only in historic structures. The chapel was nominated as the Czech candidate for the Mies van der Rohe Award for architecture. A visit can be arranged through the local municipal office. The possibility of arranging an appointment clearly distinguishes this building from the castle: While the castle is closed following its reconstruction, a visit to the chapel can be organised. The surroundings of the chapel also have a specific character. Below the village green, the Křivý stream flows into Mlýnský Pond. Architecture and the Křivý stream thus come together in the same place, without this implying any particular leisure activity.

Statues and local brewing tradition

On the road to Arnolec, approximately 400 metres beyond Černá, stands a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. The life-size stone statue is located beside the former forester's lodge, which once belonged to Černá Castle. It is generally dated to the 18th century and was renovated in 1994. For visitors interested in culture, this site brings together the figure of the saint and a building formerly associated with the castle. Beer offers another distinct facet. Pivovar Černá is a small family brewery in Černá that has been operating since 2022. It produces unfiltered and unpasteurised craft beer, made predominantly from Czech floor-malted barley and Czech hops. Pivo Pešek brewery also offers a visitor-oriented taproom with a covered outdoor terrace. Local gastronomy thus complements the architectural and religious history with a present-day craft theme.
