Úlehle combines hiking destinations on Kbíl with local history dating back to its first written mention in 1318. The lookout tower and Kbílský dolmen appeal to different interests: from the tower, the view takes in a number of named places and landscapes, while at the dolmen, a distinctive stone structure made of three stones takes centre stage. Chapels in two local districts add local history to these destinations. This gives you a mix of hiking, views and cultural discoveries to plan for.

Local history and name variants

The first written mention of Úlehle dates from 1318. Historical sources also used the names Aulehle and Oulehle; in 1924, the municipality was renamed Úlehli. These different forms make the village’s history tangible for visitors: Úlehle is the name used today, while Aulehle, Oulehle and Úlehli appear in historical contexts. The place name itself therefore offers an introduction to the area’s history before you turn to the destinations on Kbíl or the chapels.

Views and hiking trails on Kbíl

The Kbíl lookout tower stands 27 m high. From there, you can see Strakonice, the Bohemian Forest (Šumava), Boubín, Bobík, Libín, Kleť, Brdy and Temelín. These names give the panorama specific points of reference: you can focus your gaze on individual places and landscapes rather than describing the view in general terms. The tower is accessible via a yellow-marked hiking trail that crosses the road from Libětice to Úlehle south of Strakonice. This crossing provides a landmark for planning your route. Check the trail markings and conditions before setting out, as signage and conditions may change.

The Kbílský dolmen

A yellow-marked hiking trail leads from the starting point at Pod Kbílem to the Kbílský dolmen. It consists of three stones: two boulders support a stone slab whose shape resembles a stone table. The dolmen is stable, so visitors can walk underneath it. While the lookout tower offers views into the distance, at the dolmen you can experience an unusual stone formation up close. The two destinations therefore offer different highlights for visitors who want to hike on Kbíl.

Chapels in the local districts

In the local district of Švejcarova Lhota, part of the municipality of Úlehle, stands a chapel dedicated to Saint Adalbert, dating from 1851. In Radkovice, the Nihošovický potok flows through the district; there is also an old chapel there by the road towards Čestice. The two chapels offer different local points of interest: in Švejcarova Lhota, the year it was built and its dedication take centre stage, while in Radkovice, the chapel can be located by its position along the road. The stream adds a landscape detail to the picture of Radkovice. If you are interested in local history, you can include the individual districts in your exploration, as well as the trails.

Getting around and choosing accommodation

The Úlehle, Švejcarova Lhota, rozc.3.0 bus stop is right at the starting point at Pod Kbílem. Bus services are available on weekdays; if you plan to travel by bus, check the current timetable before your trip. When choosing accommodation, compare its exact location with the destinations you want to visit. Pod Kbílem is a landmark for the route to the dolmen and the bus stop; the chapels are in the local districts of Švejcarova Lhota and Radkovice. This lets you plan your stay around the experiences that matter to you without assuming a particular location or transport connection.
