Discover Sebanov: Village Green, Chapel and Hiking Trails

Sebanov combines a historically shaped townscape with marked hiking trails through the South Bohemian landscape. At its center are the lens-shaped village green, a Neoclassical chapel and several routes connecting the village with Hořice na Šumavě, Světlík and other destinations. Village Green and Chapel as Defining Local Features

The historic, loosely structured settlement pattern of Šebanov, with its village green and chapel, is considered an architecturally valuable area. The lens-shaped village green includes a village pond and a detached chapel. The shape of the green and the chapel’s separate position give the village center a clearly recognizable structure. The village pond and the detached chapel form two different points of reference from which the structure of the green can be followed while walking.

The chapel in Šebanov dates from the Neoclassical period. It is a plastered masonry building with a rectangular floor plan and a plinth, and was renovated by 2025. This means that both the historical classification and the specific architectural design of the place can be seen in a single building.

Historical Traces Around Šebanov

The Cipín niche chapel is located in the Šebanov district of Hořice na Šumavě. Cipín is a vanished village. The historic center of Hořice na Šumavě is also part of the cultural surroundings: it is designated as an urban conservation area. The history of Šebanov also includes a former mill. It was originally a hammer mill and was later expanded with a grain mill. The former mill disappeared during the widening of the road. Hiking Trails with Different Routes

The green-marked hiking trail of the Czech Tourist Club connects Hořice na Šumavě with Šebanov and Světlík. Another green-marked route is called “Around Světlík (Kirchschlag) and Hořice (Höritz)” and leads downhill to Šebanov (Schöbersdorf). On the way to Šebanov, this hiking route offers beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. The two green-marked options therefore differ in their routes: one connection links several local destinations, while the other leads downhill to Šebanov and offers views of the surrounding countryside.

The west-south hiking route from Šebanov via Světlýk rozc., Slavkov, Kaliště, Jezvinec, Malotín and Dubík to Český Krumlov is 22 km long. For this west-south hike, the journey to Šebanov is made by train. Railway line No. 194 České Budějovice–Nové Údolí runs along the northwestern edge of Šebanov.
