Výheň – History, Remembrance and Routes

Výheň brings together notable memorial sites, a section of the horse-drawn railway and routes with various historical connections. Those who plan a trip not only around sights but also around the stories of a place will find several distinct points of interest here: the national cultural monument, the commemoration of Josef Jílek, the blue Path of Resistance and the Malše 3 P trout fishing area.

The Netřebice–Výheň section of the horse-drawn railway is part of the national cultural monument Koněspřežní dráha. The Netřebice–Výheň section complements the personal memories and memorial sites in the village with the history of the horse-drawn railway. For visitors wishing to combine historic transport routes with regional history, this section is a separate reason to include Výheň in their travel plans.

Josef Jílek: Remembering a distinguished native of Výheň

The priest Josef Jílek was a distinguished native of Výheň. He took part in the anti-fascist resistance and produced forged baptism certificates. He also helped forge residence registrations and deregistrations. In doing so, he saved numerous lives.

His story is also marked by persecution and later recognition. Josef Jílek was executed by guillotine at Brandenburg Prison on 20 April 1945. In 1995, he was posthumously awarded the state decoration “Za zásluhy”, First Class, by the President of the Czech Republic. These clearly separated dates give the remembrance of him a particular historical breadth: they span from his resistance during the Second World War to the state decoration five decades later.

Memorial sites and routes

The blue Path of Resistance connects the memorials to the victims of the Second World War in Omlenice and Výheň. Výheň therefore does not appear in isolation, but as one of two explicitly connected places of remembrance. Those interested in the history of the resistance and remembrance of the victims of the Second World War can take this thematic connection into account when choosing their excursion destinations.

There are also smaller signs of remembrance within Výheň itself. A wayside cross with a monument stands there. There is also a stone culvert at the Výheň ČD stop, recalling an earlier period. These two places highlight different aspects: the wayside cross combines religiously shaped remembrance with a monument, while the stone culvert at the stop preserves a structural reminder of the past.

Malše 3 P and Route 1198

Alongside its historical themes, Výheň also has a connection to the water. The Malše 3 P trout fishing area begins at the Larsen weir by the former Caisův mlýn in the cadastral area of Výheň and runs to the Plachův weir in the cadastral area of Malče. The designation “former Caisův mlýn” explicitly preserves the mill’s former status; it should not be equated with a current operation.

Route 1198 provides another point of orientation. It runs through Kaplice, Pořešín, Rozpoutí, Výheň, Dlouhá, Velešín, Římov and Kamenný Újezd.
