Jinonice brings together an unusual number of historical layers with opportunities for active and relaxing days. The area combines an early Baroque estate, archaeological traces of early medieval settlement, a cultural and historical route, as well as green spaces and sporting facilities. Those looking for accommodation in Jinonice can tailor their stay to their own interests – balancing history, walking trails, cycling routes and urban connections.

Historical layers in Jinonice

The Jinonický dvorec is mentioned as early as 1088. The Jinonický dvorec and the château were rebuilt in 1685 at the expense of Jan Adolf Schwarzenberg and have preserved the character of an early Baroque estate from the late 17th century. Archaeological investigations on the grounds of Jinonický zámek uncovered unusually well-preserved remains of a medieval manor. The history of the area is not limited to the Middle Ages: during the Prague Uprising of 1945, Sokolovna Praha Jinonice served as the headquarters of the local command and as the centre of all revolutionary forces.

Smaller historical details are also worth a closer look. The grounds of the Church of sv. Vavřinec include a cemetery enclosed by a perimeter wall with two gates; in the northern part stands a mortuary chapel projecting beyond the wall. In Jinonice, you therefore encounter not only individual monuments, but also different forms of historical heritage – from the estate and archaeological findings to the church grounds.

Archaeology as a route through the surrounding area

The route “Exploring Archaeological and Historical Monuments” leads from the eastern edge of Stodůlky through the Jinonice area to Hlubočepy. It takes approximately three and a half hours and can be explored on foot or by bicycle along walking paths in Prokopské údolí and its immediate surroundings.

One particularly striking chapter in the area’s history is the Butovice hillfort site. In the 8th and 9th centuries, it was a centre of early medieval settlement. The approximately nine-hectare site lies on a prominent spur above the valley of the Prokopský potok; to the northeast and east, it was defended by two transverse lines of fortifications. Its location and the surviving description of the fortifications give this destination a distinctly different character from the Baroque Jinonický dvorec.

Green spaces, sport and more relaxed days

Green spaces and sporting facilities are also part of Jinonice’s appeal for varied day planning. The natural monument Vidoule is located in Jinonice. Butky Park is a recreational area with events, sporting facilities, playgrounds and opportunities to relax in a green setting. In addition, the skatepark in Jinonice on Butovická Street offers various elements on approximately 500 m² for both experienced and less advanced riders. This makes it possible to combine cultural sightseeing with a range of activities without limiting your stay to a single theme.

Metro and railway station

The Jinonice transport interchange includes access to Metro Line B and Praha-Jinonice railway station.
