Ostřetice lies in a hilly agricultural landscape on the northeastern edge of the Klatovy Basin. The village therefore combines a clearly recognizable rural setting with remarkable traces of its architectural and settlement history. For travel planning, Ostřetice is particularly interesting if you would like to combine cycling tours, small cultural and historical discoveries, and a landscape away from major urban destinations.

A village with a protected townscape

Since 1995, Ostřetice has been designated as a village heritage zone. This designation draws attention to the village as a whole, rather than just to a single building.

The wooded hills around Ostřetice include Hora, which reaches an elevation of 483.9 metres. In the village itself, a preserved granary can be found at house no. 14, notable for its narrow ventilation openings. The building has a newer hipped roof and thus retains both older and later-modified architectural features.

Chapels, a wayside shrine and archaeological traces

The village chapel in Ostřetice is already marked on maps of the stable cadastre from the first third of the 19th century. Its square floor plan, pyramid roof and polygonal bell turret give it a precise architectural form. A chapel of late Baroque origin has also been preserved at the roadside on the northeastern edge of the village. A different accent is provided by a stone, cylindrical wayside shrine at the northwestern edge of the village, dating from 1840. It bears an iron cross and is locally known as “sv. Martin”.

The archaeological site of Les Mýtě is also part of Ostřetice’s documented local heritage and is designated as an archaeological site. It comprises a group of more than thirty burial mounds. The part located in the field has been ploughed over. This limitation is part of the classification of the site: Les Mýtě represents an archaeological landscape trace, not a blanket statement about the preservation of every individual element.

Cycling tours through the landscape

Cycling Route No. 2076 connects Ostřetice with Točník. The cycling tour “From Klatovy through beautiful countryside to Plánice – birthplace of inventor F. Křižík” passes through Ostřetice and is approximately 34 kilometres long.

The section of the cycling tour from Klatovy via Ostřetice to Petrovičky is also relevant to the route characteristics. It follows Road No. 191 and includes gentle ascents and descents. The cycling tour between Klatovy and Plánice follows cycle paths and lightly trafficked second-class roads. If you are looking for accommodation in Ostřetice, these different route details may therefore influence whether you decide to include a connection to Točník, the approximately 34-kilometre cycling tour through Ostřetice, or the section via Klatovy and Petrovičky in your plans.
