In Modrava, waterways, hiking routes and the history of timber processing come together. The Modravský potok, Filipohuťský potok and Roklanský potok streams meet here to form the Vydra. If you’re looking for hotels in Modrava, you can divide your stay between trails in Šumava National Park, a bike ride and a visit to the Dřevák timber visitor centre.

Discover and work with wood

Dřevák explores the properties and uses of wood. Interactive exhibitions add a hands-on dimension to the subject. Visitors can work with wood themselves in the fully equipped workshop. The programme includes creative classes aimed primarily at children. Check in advance which classes are currently available so you can fit your preferred workshop visit into your travel plans.

Binertova pila is also associated with timber processing, but with a historical focus. The former resonance wood sawmill is now an immovable cultural monument. Its timber was used, among other things, for soundboards, piano and pianino bracing, and their keyboards. The former production site thus connects Modrava with musical instrument making. Klostermannova chata in the village is also protected as a cultural monument.

Circular trails starting in Modrava

The Modrava–Javoří Pila–Tříjezerní slať–Modrava circular route runs entirely along paved asphalt paths. It is also suitable for families with small children in pushchairs. Check the current trail conditions before setting out. Another route also starts in Modrava and leads via Rokyta, Tříjezerní slať and Rybárna through the Vydra valley back to Modrava.

The Modrava–Filipova Huť nature trail is part of the 3.5-kilometre Modrava–Filipova Huť–Modrava circular route. For a longer hike, there is the 15-kilometre Modrava–Březník–Cikánská slať–Modrava loop. If you plan your day based on distance, you can choose between these two loops of different lengths and check the route in advance.

Winter trail and cycling route

Šumava National Park lists the seven-kilometre Modrava–Tříjezerní slať–Rokyta hiking route as being maintained in winter. Winter maintenance does not replace checking current conditions: before your trip, find out about the trail conditions and take the weather and available daylight into account. The route ends in Rokyta, so plan your return accordingly.

For cyclists, the Srní–Javoří Pila–Modrava–Filipova Huť–Antýgl–Srní loop is another option to consider. It is 25.7 kilometres long. Its listed stops can help you plan a ride through several places. Choose your stages and breaks to suit your own pace, and check the current route before setting off.

Seasonal offerings and tastings

Nearby, an information centre run by the national park and refreshments are available at Březník during the summer season. At Lyer Brewery, you can arrange a tour with a beer tasting in advance. Book your preferred time beforehand. This lets you combine nature outings with a seasonal information stop or a planned tasting.
