Lomec in the Klatovy District combines the layout of an old roadside village with traces of a former fortress and routes for hikers and cyclists. For your stay, you can focus on the village center, local history, or a trip towards Klatovy and Luby. If you are looking for hotels in Lomec, consider your bus journey as well as your plans for excursions.

Village Center, Bell Tower, and Pond

The village center is a short, one-sided linear settlement. The rectangular houses stand perpendicular to the north–south road; the former manor house is on the opposite side. This makes it possible to see the historic settlement pattern along the road, rather than viewing only individual buildings.

The green village square is at the intersection with the road towards Klatovy–Luby. It features a pump, a small bell tower, and a cross. The square also has an area for the maypole. A pond with a reinforced embankment and tall greenery adjoins the village square. These features provide several clear points of reference for a walk through the center.

Site of the Former Fortress and Historic Trade Route

The site of Lomec’s former fortress is oval in shape and measures 20 by 24 meters. No wall remains have been preserved there. It lies on the southeastern edge of a pond. The historic feature is therefore a site in the landscape, not a surviving castle building with rooms open to visitors. Plan your walk accordingly and check access conditions on site.

A trade route from Bavaria to Luby and onward into the Bohemian interior once passed through Lomec. This route is part of the village’s history. If you continue along the local road towards Luby, you can see Klatovy in the valley to the left of the road in good weather. The view depends on visibility, so choose a suitable time for your walk.

Walking and Cycling

The blue-marked Svatojakubská cesta (Way of St. James) passes through the Lomec area. Check the current markings and route before setting out on your hike. A cycling tour from Klatovy to Loreta also passes through Lomec. The main railway station in Klatovy is listed as the starting point, and Mercandinovy sady as the destination. You can also choose other starting and ending points in Klatovy. This makes Lomec a convenient stop on a cycling tour that begins and ends in Klatovy.

Wet Meadows and Getting There

The Luňáky Nature Reserve lies within the municipal planning area covering Lomec and Novákovice. It protects the last remnants of wet meadows in the Úhlava Basin, as well as breeding sites and migration areas for protected and endangered animal species. The reserve adds a natural-history dimension to the village and its routes.

Lomec and Novákovice are served by the shared “Lomec, Novákovice, rozc. 0.4” bus stop. Check the current service before travelling and plan your return journey too. This will help you coordinate your choice of hotel with your planned walks, a cycling tour, and the available bus service.
